Every single move that Rob has made, has come out of left field, ever since he got promoted.

Because honestly none of these big trades ever leak.

This is why I’ll never be able to fully embrace Rob. If you can’t recognize a talent this special and do what it takes to keep him when he’s willing to take less to be here, I question your talent evaluation.

He would be perfect for our team too. Such a shame... can't believe they picked THT over him - sigh.

i will reiterate that we had his bird rights, and it didn't have to be either/or. we actually ended up spending like, 2 million less on kendrick nunn. imo, that was the switchoff--nunn for caruso. wtf. and even THAT didn't have to be the case. once again, bird rights! ultimately, it was penny pinching that lost caruso, which is sad for one of the most valuable franchises in sports.

^ all true. If SA or anyone else made an offer to Austin, he would also be gone.

I'll die on this hill. That decision was made above Rob. It was about the luxury tax issue. Caruso's 10 million contract would have cost the team something like 30 million. Still a terrible decision, but I'm convinced Jeanie made the final call.

Yup. This is the real reason. I understand it and it’s easy for us to throw shade when it’s not our money.
It also ain’t Pennie’s- it’s Tens of Millions of Dollars.
I’m happy that the Eagle is able to play with such a fun group and not stuck in Chicago anymore.

Totally agree it was a money issue and that’s on the Jeanie.

people are going to say "but rob made the choice and rationalized it in the press". and my response would be that rob knows who pays the bills, and he's not going to throw ownership under the bus.

but rest assured, if ballmer owned us, caruso would still be here. we'd have signed nunn, caruso, AND THT.

we also wouldn't have just let bamba and beasley walk in FA after the russ trade, imo.

    is what it is.

nothing about SPJ's game during his time with the lakers or in the g-league indicated that he'd be an NBA regular

that's just how it goes sometimes

Yeah I'm still down that THT was worth the risk - he was so young and he had such a unique body that you had to give him a shot.
The Nunn signing though screamed being hoodwinked by Spoelstra magic - Spoelstra got him to starting and then decided to go away with him till he had to go back to him when injuries hit. COnsidering his size on top of that so many red flags

It was an open secret going into that offseason, that it was going to be either Caruso or Tucker period. Rob chose Tucker, that's just what happened. We were never going to keep both. We were already over the salary cap, and this was going to be the case regardless. I'm sure that Jeanie knew that Caruso was a fan favorite, she let her GM make that call. And still to this day, Lebron claims that he told them to keep Caruso. Rob has made his share of questionable calls as GM, but he gets a lot of cover for them for some reason. Nothing seems to be mostly his fault, it's always some kind of extenuating circumstances going on.
