He should be in the gym the majority of this summer just jacking threes. I still want him on my team, but would understand if he had to be in a trade for a real C this summer.
He can absorb regular season minutes at least. We have him for 3 more years so there is time for him to somewhat improve on that end. I’m not so concerned with trading him. His contract is 7% of cap space so it’s not like we’ve grossly hamstrung ourselves.
I don’t think he has positive trade value. 3 years left, for a defensive player that can’t stay on the floor because teams can help off of him and he’s been injured for almost 2 years. You’re probably attaching assets to get rid of him or you’re trading for a negative asset yourself, hoping a change of scenery does them good.
we have short memories on vando and attend too much to what he doesn't/can't do. feel like a few pages ago it was all praises for his role in our winning spell. he's a 15-20 mpg player, and he's paid like one. hustle and energy is a skill, and he has it on a team that could sometimes really use it. and as svtzr said, we can't trade him, so we may as well try to enjoy his play.
I was thinking in a package deal(he and a couple others) for a C. I don’t think he has as much negative trade value as some here.
guessing portland takes him, kleber, and gabe for ayton, but...do we really win there? guess we could try kleber/vando/all the picks for claxton?
Ayton with Luka and Lebron would be something to see. you could get something great out of that (JR Smith in Cleveland) or it could go downhill fast (Dlo here) Such a waste of talent
Claxton- I’de be down with that. I don’t want Ayton at all: has the worst motor and brain for a big man since, I don’t even know!
Never understood players like Vanderbilt. What are they doing in practice? He doesn't work on his offensive game at all so is he just getting himself in shape to play defense? If that's the case, the Lakers gotta move him. It's not enough to just play defense when you're a liability offensively. Even when he's wide open in the corner, you know he's going to miss... At this point, Lakers gotta move Knecht into the spot and only use Vanderbilt situationally. He is literally unplayable at times. Like damn... you can't shoot, can't hit FT's, have zero post moves, zero ability to attack the rim. What the hell are you working on? The crazy part is a player who can play defensive like him and with that wingspan and length, if he was able to just knock down 36% of threes, he would earn double the money he is now.
Feel like JJ is trying to fit a square peg in a round hole whenever Vando is playing at the 5 on defense. He lacks the verticality to defend in the post. He’s strictly a perimeter defender.
Yeah he's currently wrongly used . He creates defensive havoc on the perimeter and JJ is using him as a small ball center . and Hopefully JJ is just savin Bron's energy for the playoffs as a small ball C right now and Vando will go back to his usual role
agree, but jj's not the first coach to decide vando had to play center. it's weird to me, as he's obviously more effective defending smaller guys in space than bigger guys at the rim. he's not a shotblocker, and he's not able to box out bigs like luka and lebron can. you just use him to slow down the other team's best perimeter scorer and cause havoc out there for 15 minutes.
At this point, Goodwin is better than him most of the time. I was expecting more from Vanderbilt but he's highly situational. If he's not giving you good defense the first few minutes he's on the court, you gotta pull him out. Vanderbilt + Maxi + Rui + 2 first rounders for Cam Johnson + Claxton?
