Welp .... apologies to whoever it was that had THAT scoop they had read somewhere before he came back that the Lakers might be thinking of using Vando at the 5 spot some and there was some good old MOCKING on that right? Link or it was NOT said!!
Our best rebounder. Just gets after it, every time… Has zero offense though as we all know. Love how he doesn’t let ish slide and slaps hands away when ppl try things lol. Just work on your corner 3 ball all summer Vando. Let’s see that shot fall in consistently.
He needs to be willing to shoot more. He bricked his open 3 but he was able to hit them the last game after putting more up. he's got to be willing to put stuff up or he turns into a worse version of Ben Simmon. Shoot Vando shoot
Rescued from page 2 just to say it seems since Vando put on some more muscle up top he has turned into “likes to fight guy”? Or has he always been that way?
Yeah, I don't remember him as our go to tough guy. But he came back and his Baseline is on the edge. He's welcoming the physicality and often looking for it. Really making JJ get his cardio in, all that running out to the court to pull Vando back to the bench.
If we win the chip, DAR will likely get a ring from us. Not sure how I feel about that, but the Lakers will be all class about it I’m sure.
I'm usually not one to tout plus/minus stats, but Vando at a 24+ backed up the eye test. He turned that game around with his hustle last night, he was every where for a about a 5 min stretch. Didn't score a single bucket but absolutely impacted the game.
Our best rebounder. Our best defender. The most energy. I’ll keep saying it. When this guy gets minutes, our team generally is in a much better position to win. He needs to work the corner 3 all summer, and also get more confidence around the rim to take it up strong instead of quick swings.
Vando has seen his minutes slowly decreasing. I really loved the energy he exploded out of the gate with. He felt like prime Kirilenko in limited minutes. He had 9 steals in his first games and was generally super disruptive. With his offensive short comings, I can see him out of the rotation in the playoffs unless we throw him against someone who's hot in spot minutes. It's a shame because he's such an easy player to root for when he is in form.
I love what he brings to the team in regular season, but he can be played off the court in the playoffs. This is why his minutes are decreasing, most likely. He went from 18-19 down to 10. And he does very well in those 10 minutes, for sure, but his offensive game just isn't there.
If Kleber was healthy, I believe he'd take those 10 mins most likely. Goodwin and DFS have taken the rest. I don't know where Vando goes from here, players that can't shoot can usually finish OK like Bruce Brown. Lots of times I just see Vando getting blocked at the rim, if he was aggressive and finished on rolls, he would be really valuable as a backup 5 to play pick and rolls with Luka. He doesn't have that verticality though.
Really tough to play him as he can't hit the corner 3 consistently and can't finish inside against traffic. It's a bit baffling as he's a good athlete and he's got length but you look at Rui and Rui clears out space and will go up with authority. I think probably small hands, not really a high flyer, and the lack of bulk make it easy for defenders to get in his way - if he had Richaun Holmes floater game it would work but he doesn't. Really Vando doesn't even have one thing that he's good at it in the halfcourt offense right now. That's tough
The worst part is, on the other side he can be a genuine game changer. He can disrupt 1-4 pretty effectively and just be a dog out there. It feels wrong to give that up, but we are being guarded 5 on 4 on offence when he is out there.
The offense is really rough. Buha looked it up on his last pod, roughly 1 out of 10 of his shots get blocked at the rim. He really struggles to finish. Can't shoot. His athleticism isn't helping him score. At all. He can singlehandedly come into a game and change it defensively. $11m for 10 minutes and 1-7 FGs is tough though. League wide, he's a negative asset. Irwin discussed it around the deadline, teams don't like that contractor at all.
