Game Debrief: What Went Right And What Went Wrong?

Gotta stop blowing the leads. Just step on the other teams throat and rest the starters ffs. This game should be over after 30mins

 

Once again the Lakers play the first 22 mins looking like the best team in the league. 68-55 at half, Lakers. Of course IND wins the 3rd. By 10. The 3rd Q is a problem for us and JJ needs to figure that out.

One of the more thrilling games this season, and we were damned lucky to get it. Rui hits 2 clutch 3s, but then the defense falls apart in the last 2 mins, with Tyrese getting around his man (watch the game again to see who) for a layup with 1:17 left to cut the Laker lead to 2. AR makes a risky and bad pass, Tyrese steals it, hits a floater to tie it, Luka fouls him. And-one. He hits it. Pacers up 1 with 42 secs left. Breathe. Breathe. I'm standing, fists clenched, we needed this win and our 15 point lead is gone. IND has been winning games in the last secs lately, 5 straight for them. Our defense looked like it did during the 18-4 period...we need this. We...needed this? Are we actually going to lose this one? D F-S misses on a tough drive to the rack. My heart sank. IND gets the board. They're still up 1.

With 11 secs left in the game, Mathurin tries a step-back which would be a perfectly dismal way to go down for our 4th straight loss...but he misses! I think he was trying to draw a foul on a 3? He sorta pulled the ball off his hip and made the attempt, which reminded me of Kevin Martin with SAC.

Luka misses a floater to win it with a little over 2 secs left in the game, Lebron tips it in at the buzzer. Lakers win 120-119.

That felt like a playoff game. IND had been playing really well. They were up for us. We took a 3 point lead into the 4th. This kinda game...not sure if it's good for my health, but the Lakers are a big part of my LIFE (and yours). Damn it was good to get a win. Even if it had to be like that.

Vicious BTB on the road in CHI coming up. I'm just glad we looked a little bit like the team that, for awhile, couldn't lose.

 

Tyrese was 1 for 9 from 3 for them but 7 for 16 overall: basically the same game, shooting-wise, as AR. Albeit Tyrese had 18 dimes, AR only 5.

IND played about as well as they could: 9 turnovers for the GAME. We had 14, including 3 just thrown away very early on. And we still won.

Myles was 4 of 5 from 3, his only miss very late, when the clock was winding down, he got the pass up high in the corner and put it up...and it almost went in.

We shot 21 of 24 in FTs, which didn't hurt.

Despite AR and Lebron a combined 1-11 from 3, we shot the 3 even better than they did. What a wild-azzed game!

 

Can't help it: this is a problem and it's not AR.

Luka dishes to Rui for a 3 w/2:23 left: Lakers up 6. 10 secs later Nembhart just goes around Luka for an easy layup: Lakers by 4. There was no one in the paint, and Luka looked like a damned toreador. Maybe you just credit IND for spreading the floor really well. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Had JJ shaking his head.

With 1:31 left, Myles blocks Rui's dunk. I'd like Rui to juke or pump-fake a bit more down low, but no complaints, really.

Lakers still up 4. Tyrese then blows by...Luka to cut it to 2 with 1:17 left. It was...subpar defense by #77, and it really hurt us. Ideally, we'd have a big as a last line of defense there, but JJ didn't play anyone in crunch bigger than 6'8" or 6'9" (Rui and Lebron, respectively).

Tyrese stole the crazy pass by AR, then kept the ball for a long time, dribbling, and was defended pretty well by Luka as he drove the lane...but Haliburton made it and Luka fouled him and TH hit the FT to put us down 1.

 

When a guy shoots 50% from the field overall, it’s never considered a “bad shooting night.”
His game, over the course of the entire game wasn’t the reason why it was close down the stretch.
We were up 13 with 8:00 left in the fourth and our poor team defense let Indy back in the game.
Even if we would have lost, Austin missing threes wouldn’t have been the culprit.

 

Rumors are he paid people to do this. Started his own trend, etc. Wow.

 

This game against the Bulls is a good example of how Luka is an underrated defender. It was not his best shooting night in any way, but he found a way to impact the game, particularly defensively.

Lebron awful last possession left his guys and threw the ball away. What a horrible loss

 

Lebron is the last person you'd expect to make such a dumb mistake. That was just carelessness. The game was in the bag.

 

Last 2 possessions before the halfcourt shot…. LeBron leaves the corner 3 guy…. Before that one he left huerter (who only shoots 3s) wide open on center 3….. then passes the effing ball to the other team….

Truly single-handedly lost us this game.

I hope he owns up to it, and I hope JJ calls him out on it straight up.

 

It was 2 mistakes. He shouldn't have left his guys for the first 3 pointer

Awful mistake from LeBron. The Bulls ended up going like 10/14 from three in the 4th quarter, including the halfcourt game winner. Combination of self-inflicted wounds and fluke shooting. Next three games are massive.

 

Losing big 4th quarter leads is not a habit you want to develop at the end of the season.
This has me worried about our chances of making a deep playoff run.

 

We gave up 44 points in the fourth. Dang.

 

We are a small team. We are starting a second string level C and our options behind him are barely G-League talent.
We all have been clamoring for a real big to put alongside AD for years. Now with AD gone, the hole increased to Grand Canyon proportions.
