John seems to be defending Russell, not understanding you're referring to randle. or no, John?

    I'm describing Russell.

Randle... ehhh.... he hasn't played for a year. he's not playing tomorrow. He'll be back Monday. It's probably gonna take him a little while longer.

I think everyone on our team knows they didn't play their A game, it's one game, Judge them after the whole summer league and pre season.

I actually liked what I saw out of the main young guns today...
JC has obviously taken it up a notch.
D'Russ is an elite passer & will grow into NBA form nicely.
    Tarik is a beast.
JR was very rusty, but showed flashes of what we expect him to be.
Upshaw is interesting.. He's slow & a bit awkward, but can be an elite defender if he gets the right coaching.
    Brown can shoot the ball.

The rest of the guys I don't really expect much from....

i re-watched the game and from what i see upshaw just needs some conditioning, him going up against the #1 pick and holding his own was very nice to see

anything we get from him on the offensive end is a bonus same (same with hibbert when the season starts)

he said that he's only played like 8 times since he left school so he's way behind everyone else. (it's expected so i dont mind)

Randle was rusty as expected but i think will get better as time passes and he gets more comfortable

last yr he came in out of shape and then had the unfortunate injury, had to rehab and im not even sure if he started playing any games until our season was over so he gets a pass, this season he came in great shape and has impressed people that have seen him every day so i'll trust their judgement before ours because we only saw him for one game

russell played as expected, his passes are amazing and caught some of our players off guard but that will get better with time and as chemistry keeps building with them, his defense impressed me and if he gets better on this end of the floor it's just gonna make him that much better.

brown had little impact but he prob. had the jitters since it was his first official game, im sure it must be a nervous feeling playing for your favorite team

nance didnt have a huge impact but he has a good feel for the game and his athleticism will help him

black is what j.hill was when he came here. a magnet for rebounds. his D is fine but hopefully going against hibbert and upshaw in practice will help him

clarkson was the star tonight as expected. he's a man amongst boys and i hope that his work ethic and desire to get better rubs off on our younger guys

imo we gotta let our guys get a few games under their belt before we start classifying them as "underwhelming"

one game doesnt make anybody a star and it sure as hell doesnt make you a bust.

    lets hope for the best

    Here's what I saw.

    - Clarkson was the best player on the floor.
    - Black was right behind him, by far our best big.
    - you can already see the potential with Russell's. Next level passing ability, kid is going to be a star.
    - Upshaw showed why he was 1 of the best defenders in the NCAA. Loved him shutting Towns down.
    - Randle didn't impress at all. It's just 1 summer league game but my expectations were and still are low.
    - Brown showed some promise. As long as he can hit that open 3 he should be useful.

I think we all saw enough to know that these guys are gonna be good. You could see flashes of great play. I think by December we are all gonna
have a lot of fun on this site talking about all games :cool:
I was most impressed with clarkson. You can tell he stepped up his game.
Randle is gonna need time and I think russell and Black are gonna just get
better and better. Fun times to be a Laker fan after the last 3 years.

It would be nice to see more movement without the ball from some of the guys. Too much standing around. Julius is just a black hole when he gets the ball. Seems like we have a bunch of guys who are going to be putting up a lot of shots in iso situations.

yea thats what i thought too

it happens a lot when kobe's on the floor and i'd hate for the young guys to make it a habit in summer league too

they gotta move without the ball because that opens so many other opportunities especially with a guy like russell at the point

its something i hope mark madsen took a note of and b.scott too

Here are my take aways from the 1st SL game.
-Clarkson was CLEARLY the best player on the court.
-Randle was rusty, seemed a bit rushed, showed flashes of greatness, but the thing that stood out the most was how EASY he moved dudes out of the way.
-Russell played good, he seemed to let the game come to him, facilitated the guys with great passes.
-Anthony Brown can shoot, I think he will be a guy that can stretch the floor for us this year.
    -Nance was all hustle
-Upshaw was real interesting. He just needs to get conditioning and more play to get situated, but to hold his own defensively against Towns was real impressive.

After listening to these guys for the last few days, you get the sense that they know they have a special core.
They all mention each other often and how they need to grow together.
On a side note...I love seeing maddog so "coachlike". haha
