was it them or usc? or did he coach there?

anyway, bibby was a thorn in our side during his prime, and he was another sg in a pg's body. i posted the stats a while back because slick insisted murray was better (he's not).

Henry Bibby played in the first 47 of the 88 straight wins UCLA had under Wooden. He was a starter on 3 NCAA championship teams for UCLA. Then he went on to have a decent 10 yr. career in the NBA: Knicks, New Orleans Jazz, 76ers, 1980-81 Clippers. I watched all of it. (Not every game, but I was there as a Laker fan.) And when we played a Henry Bibby team, I recalled being a very young child-fan of basketball and the name "Bibby" just struck me as funny, in a James Joycean way, like a recurrent gag in the very hippie-ish "Laugh-In" show, when they said, "You bet your sweet bippy!"

Then Henry retires. Then his son - also an NCAA champ - 1997 Arizona, under Lute Olson - got drafted by the Vancouver Grizzlies, played a long NBA career, retired. And somehow I'm still alive? Even though I still smoke weed and drink and cavort with the ladies?

Henry divorced Mike's mom and Mike publicly disowned him, but they later reconciled as Father-Son. Mike has a son who played hoops for Appalachian State in 2017, never made the NBA. Which just would've added to my Methuselah vibes.

yeah, i just remembered him as a coach (knew he was a player before, but not for whom). and he did coach USC for nine years, apparently.

    Just finished the game.
    Two things:
Mikey Malone is an overrated coach: all he had to do was double Austin all night and they would have won by 30, easily.
Joker is very good, but he gets so many phantom calls, it’s ridiculous- way more than any big man I have watched over the past 40 years.

yeah, when he ascended the mountain, the refs decided to just pour it on. he's plenty good enough without that extra advantage.

and he does get hit a lot (look at all the scratches on him every game), but he dishes more punishment than he receives, imo. and he rarely gets called for offensive fouls, which he commits VERY regularly. many of them are off ball, though, and refs don't seem to care about that for whatever reason.

The box score for Lakers @ DEN on Pi day is Exhibit A for all the jagoffs who assert the refs favor the Lakers. Without Luka or Lebron, we shot 16 FTs. Joker alone shot 17: you HAVE to foul lethal players like that. You had to foul AD. You have to foul Luka and Lebron.

DEN shot 38 FTs, 22 more than us.

But call "bank" and just wait for the haters to revert to the Lakers conspiracy theory with the refs/NBA/Voldemort or whatever when Lebron and Luka are back playing and "healthy."

LOLOL …. commentator 1 (paraphrasing … Luka always likes to beat Phoenix and has big games for passing on him with their first pick). Commentator 2 (paraphrasing well you know the Suns took Deandre Ayton and it’s not been decided whether they made the right decision or not).

That was Richard Jefferson lol. Didn't want to diss his fellow Arizona alum so he totally deadpanned that one. I almost burst out laughing at coscto tire while watching the game

still just can't imagine having the first and second picks in the draft and NOT TAKING LUKA DONCIC. i mean, at least atlanta used his value to trade for what could have been something good (narrator: they, too, lost hard). but neither bagley nor ayton was a defensible pick over luka, even at the time. this isn't hindsight. i remember being shocked dallas could get him when they had the 5th pick. insane.

that franchise then basically salary dumped ayton for nurkic, whom they then paid to get off of. holy s***.

I’m curious why Durant isn’t getting killed for being on a sub-.500 team with 2 other all-stars. Booker is worse than he has been, hell their whole team looked like they were barely trying. If that were LeBron on a sub-.500 team with 2 other former all-stars and the team was playing like that he’d be getting destroyed for it, absolutely torn apart in the media and on twitter. LeBron gets held to a higher standard to me at age 40 in year 22 than Durant ever has, and that makes little sense to me.

So funny, I guess if you never watch RJ's podcast or hosting you may take this as him being serious but the deadpan pitch was so perfect IMO.

Beal played 15 minutes? I’m guessing he left injured again? That guy can’t catch a break to stay healthy.

Right- end to end win today and back to winning. Hayes looked great. Just have to get Rui and LeBron back and we’re in business.

Just finished watching, about 9 hours after the actual game started.

Lakers, back home after a completely brutal road trip, break a 4-game losing streak beating PHO, 107-96. It wasn't really that close. It shouldn't have been that close, but our shooting was lousy.

What went Right: Luka, Jaxson, DF-S and Gabe back.

Superstars for PHO: KD: 6 for 17: 21 pts; Booker: 6 for 17: 19 pts; Beal 2 for 6: 4 pts before his weekly injury occurred. He's making over $50mil this year.

Lakers jumped out to a 31-11 lead. PHO had 37 points at halftime.
What went Right: didn't have to see Alex Len play.

What kinda ticked me off: PHO had 14 offensive boards to our 7.
Koloko needs to show some aggression around the rim. But maybe he doesn't have the heft.
I thought PHO got away with a lot of dirty play. They're in disarray, scramblin' to make the play-in and they're desperate. One of the more nauseating things is an NBA team that plays dirty, chippy, and they're still losers. That's PHO. I wish them all the worst.

We shot 43% for the game, which is...not good, and makes for a frustrating experience esp after losing 4 straight. But PHO shot only 39% for the game.

What went Right: it looked like Vando really bothered the eff outta KD in the 10 mins Vando got.

What needs to be better: we missed 11 FTs.

The way this game shook out was one thing, but it really did look like we could've beaten these guys by 40.

If we have a weak quarter, you bet your azz it's the 3rd; PHO won the 3rd by 5. With 3:56 left in the 3rd, Luka hit a FT to put us up 80-64. PHO cut it to 9 when Tyus hit a 3 with 9:10 left in the 4th, but then AR immediately came down and made a 4-point play. I liked how he seemed to have a long civil conversation with the ref about his landing area. Ighodaro closed out in a way that could've been flagrant.

What went Right: R-Jeff's joke about how it's not yet settled between the choices for PHO of drafting Luka or, what they actually did: draft that jagoff Ayton. Ayton deserves every diss ya can throw at him, imo.

    I am an eternal PHO-hater.
What went Right: we beat PHO.

It was nice to see AR have another strong game

Drives me nuts seeing how many points we leave on the floor with these missed FTs

Get them in the gym coach and make them shoot FTs every day

Kolo has zero touch around the rim

He missed many lobs dunks with the ball literally right at the rim

He has to finish those and he's leaving points on the floor
