i commented on this when we got him and mentioned it in the game debrief, but yeah, the idea that he's a bad defender is just contrary to fact, imo. no, he's not going to lock down on the opposing star or anything, but trying to pick on him is a fool's errand, imo.

maybe if you have an ultra quick pg, you look for that matchup, but everyone else would be wise to just treat him like any other wing, imo.

Man to go from possibly having Jaylen Brunson and Luka for 10 years to this is depressing and I'm not even a Mavs fans.
I know that occurred under Cuban but not signing Brunson before his last year with Dallas was a canary in the coalmine for Dallas.
They would have had those two and nice war chest of assets (the picks used to get Kyrie). Yikes

 

The number of steals is impressive. Good instincts and quick hands if not quick feet...lol.

 

The Mavs trading him is why I'm here. Nico bet on the wrong horse. I think the plan in Dallas was to trade Luka for AD then get KD to join them either at the deadline or in this coming offseason. I would rather have Luka. They blew an incredible future. Sure, Dallas will be good for 3 years or so if they can keep them all healthy.

Just think that last night we watched 3 of the Mavs starters play (Brunson, Luka, and Doe Doe). 2 of them being stars and 1 of those 2 a first ballot HOFer. What idiots do that?

And yeah...Luka is THAT guy.

I'm not surprised about Grimes saying that. He is another one I thought it was stupid to trade. And no, Luka is not a bad defender. He's got quick hands and is smart. There are narratives out there about him that make no sense.

 

How would you guys even get KD? You'd have to gut your team because most of the guys are getting $10-15 million.

KD+Kyrie+AD wouldn't be enough especially since they are all injury prone.

I don't think you can win anymore with just a Big 3 with max contract players. A big 2 and a well-rounded roster overall is just more reliable.

I think they plan on trading the rest of the young guys PJ, Hardy, possibly Klay as well. It's just flawed thinking. They destroyed a finals team for a shot at 2 aging and injury prone players.

Maybe they try to keep Klay and change the team moniker to the Geriatrics.

Couldn’t have happened to a better franchise.
Cuban was the biggest complainer to Stern when word got out about us getting CP3. That cost us at least one Chip.
I’m so happy that Cuban has to watch the best player he ever drafted lead the Lakers for the next decade. It doesn’t matter to me that he no longer is with the organization because Dallas with always be his favorite team.

 

Luka's having a down year as well.

Last year, he averaged 34/8.4/10 on above 38% from 3pts on 10 attempts per game. Just outrageous numbers.

This kid is just a genius basketball player.

 

I figure another 2-3 weeks and Luka should be in full form again. He's looking great honestly. He looks physically better than he did last year.

 

he's still kind of wincing and limping sometimes, which concerns me. but yeah, i expect we'll see last year's luka again, maybe as soon as this year's playoffs. but definitely by next year. this implicit notion that he was somehow done after a calf injury at age 26 was and is insane (if anyone is still clinging to it).
