I wonder if they tried to trade Embiid, if anyone would bite. That's a significant cap hit for a player that is forever injured.

At this point... I don't think anyone would bite. You can't pay someone 60+ million and watch him miss almost half of his games. Embiid has literally missed 400 games in his career and played just over 400. And the situation is rapidly deteriorating. You would not even do a Reaves-Embiid swap at this point, there's no way.

It's possible Embid's career is over and he's owed all that money. Wow.

I can see us moving into the top four teams in the league by the end of the year. I did NOT see that happening. If we didn't wear those sucky bad luck jerseys, we might be there now. That's crazy.

Similar to how Mavericks/Cuban karma for Chris Paul landed us Luka …. to Philadelphia for all those “trust the system” years? ;)

It is really hard to judge. Are we really this good or are we just playing over our heads right now?? I don't really believe that but I have a hard time understanding how we became this good while AD was injured. Then we traded him for a player who is injured and we have gone from playin at best to potential top 4 in the league. F'ing weird to me.

I think we're really this good when everyone's healthy. Everyone is buying into the new defensive system, it seems to be well suited for the players we have right now. Luka's "gravity" is huge, which opens up unbelievable space for everyone else to operate on the offensive end.

The team is very good. Maybe not championship good, but one of the better teams in the NBA right now.

just noticed kawhi played 38 minutes last night, which of course was the most he's played this season

guessing they'll trot him out there for another 30+ in the next game 7 tomorrow before he misses the next few games and goes back to his restriction

I don't deep dive into all the Laker releases and press conferences, but isn't it refreshing to not hear about Kurt and LInda Rambis so much? Honestly I felt that whole misplaced loyalty and gal pallary was so hard to bear.
Also my instincts that JJ was an amazing coach proved right. I don't know what Ham is searching for in those pockets (a clue?) but I don't think he will ever find it in there......

The team is on a positive. Luka is disramingly shy (language barrier) in interviews, but he speaks fluently and makes his statements on the court. His shooting will come right (have patience), and him Lebron and AR are the players that will get wins, media exposure - nationally televised games, win over those fairweather fans for a seasons as few players can do.

Wait this isn't this the optimism thread???? I was worried a lot about AR's injury last night tbh, but other than that things are gold, purple and gold.

My bad I quoted @The Showtime Mamba above and replied in Kobe's thread by mistake. Just saw and deleted it. Copy/paste here.

You're my guy Showtime and this isn't directed specifically at you but this whole taken as gospel now that the only "value" Kurt and Linda have are of (less than zero or close to it) and am starting to push back on it, just my opinion, not of course that anyone gives a crap.

How in the world does ANYONE outside the organization know exactly what value and what quality of that value both have in the meetings behind closed doors? One of the first things Jerry Buss did in the world of sports, while still a real estate magnate, was to make a foray into World Team Tennis, owning the L.A. Strings, a franchise that featured Chris Evert as a player and Ilie Nastase as the coach and drew tennis fans to the Forum from 1974 to 1978. He put Linda Zafrani, sister to a Playmate he was dating, and Jeanie in charge of that endeavor. They have been in business together for well over 50 years now.

Kurt is now thought of as a buffoon for some reason. Why? Because he wasn't successful trying to run the incredibly hard and not popular with players Triangle offense for periods of time in his stints with MN and NY, and wasn't Phil with Tex on the bench next to him (plus how good realistically were the squads? ... NO idea). When he took over for Del Harris after the latter was fired in the strike shortened season in 1999, the year before Phil arrived with the Triangle .... he was 24-13 with young Kobe and Shaq and they made it to the Western Conf semifinals and were eliminated by the Spurs. So the next year he began a long relationship with Phil Jackson, who if anyone didn't suffer fools he would be near the top of that list, to be closely involved with one that long .... married to Jeanie's "gal pal" or not.

And yes Jeanie does trust them to have her and the team's back. In one of his shots at Rob the "backstabber" as Magic went scorched earth on the Lakers for that period of time, as he went out the door it was reported one of the things he said to Jeanie was to surround herself with people she KNEW she could trust.

Guys, I was listening to a podcast and they were saying that we can sign both Jemison and Goodwin, but there needs to be a set amount of time between the signings to open up the second space. How much truth is there to this?

I think we can add both if we wanted but need to wait until as close to the end of the regular season as possible. There's no sense of doing it while either are still two way eligible. Waiting x number of days between them won't unlock more funds. We may have to wait a certain period because on x day, y player would only cost z. I'm not sure of those dates or figures to fit under the cap umbrella though. I asked Pincus and didn't really get anywhere. I'll try asking Keith Smith and see if he can give me a clearer picture.

Seriously …. in the balls out go big or go home prediction style popularized here by @Toklat   …. playing Jerry West here myself, “I’ve seen enough”. Of Goodwin and of Jemison. And it’s near a tossup which one is more exciting to now have for filling the need for additional quality depth at our ONLY two remaining weaknesses: Big strong mobile center who can play good defense, rebound and score around the rim. Lobs for sure … dunks and how about that nice junior sky hook he put in a couple games ago. And be able to put a body they’ll feel on the bigger centers we face that are too much for Jackson to Handle.

And Goodwin too is perfect plus high quality for the big guard hard nosed POA defense and running the offense with scoring ability … depth. If I could have only one of them I think you have to take Jemison as it’s a Bigger strategic need.

If we can have them both for the playoffs and reasonably good health just give us the rings now. Seriously we’re a monster. Those are our only remaining weaknesses!

I agree LT, I think Jemison fills a greater need. Goodwin will make us deeper and our core fresh going into the playoffs. I doubt we go 9 or 10 deep in the playoffs, but Goodwin would be a great spark off the bench when things get stagnant.
