.... the original report of Sixers deal .... "2 year 3 million deal" sounds like peanuts, vet min if it was total of 3 million. Would imagine he's making more where he is but no idea. If it was 3M for each year that would be twice as much of course.

Why would you trade your best player when your the #2 seed in the West? It’s almost as dumb as trading your best player when you made the Finals last year, which would never happen.

    Oh wait…

Only way it really makes sense is if they’re worried Ja is just going to be another Derrick Rose because of his playing style.

Ja isn't their best player anymore, JJJ is. He hasn't defended at the same level as he did in 2023 when he won DPOY, but he's gotten a lot better offensively. I think he's going to make an All-NBA team this year, and if he does he'll be eligible for 5/$345 million in the summer. I think it makes sense to keep JJJ, build around him and Bane, get some young players and picks for Ja.

I was looking up Claxton highlights. He's had a drop-off in his production the last few years, but this provides the kind of potential he can bring; also, Day'Ron Sharpe, too. If we're looking for switchy, perimeter focused bigs, this off-season, these two might be interesting. Sharpe would probably require less assets going out.

Interesting names to potentially keep an eye on...

still annoyed we didn't just fold sharpe into the DFS deal. when we briefly traded for williams, i was like ok, fine. but now i'm looking at len having to play in the playoffs unless we want to run gabe at backup center or something.

Yeah I don’t agree with all that. I mean JJJ is a really good player he’s an All Star, but Ja is still a top 10-15 player imo and a franchise player. I just look at what happened to that team when he missed all those games last year they completely fell apart. Obviously he’s not at the level of Luka, but you don’t trade Ja unless you think Jaren Jackson Jr is going to be your next franchise player that can lead you to a ring. I see him more as a great second option not as a lead dog on a title contender.

Unless they flame out and lose in the first round (like they did in 2023) then I don’t think it makes any sense at all considering they’re one of the best teams in the West as currently constructed. If you trade Ja you’re pretty much starting over. Yeah I understand his numbers are down, but he’s playing significantly less minutes coming off the injury and they’re still winning games at a high level.

They didn't fall apart last year because Ja was out, they fell apart because Ja was out and then JJJ/Bane/a bunch of other guys missed time too. They were starting lineups with like 4 guys I'd never heard of before. They're 14-8 without Morant this year, they were 11-10 without him in 2023, and 20-5 without him in 2022.

I'll admit I'm lower on Ja than most. I think back to that 2023 playoff series against them, and I just wasn't scared of him. We won that series because their Ja-lead halfcourt offense could not generate good looks consistently. It was high pick and roll over and over again with Ja taking a million floaters because AD kept him from getting to the rim. He's not a guy that can lead you to a championship either; he's too one-dimensional offensively to be a high-level offensive hub in the playoffs and he misses a bunch of games. He sells tickets and is popular with the fans, but I think he's a regular season player that misses a bunch of the regular season.

Sharpe was supposed to be, right? Rob didn’t want/have the assets to add, which probably was another second or two without affecting his future plan
