yeah, jsm mentioned kevon looney, and while he's not the vertical threat, what he is is a guy that gets in the right place and plays physical. i'll take it. i don't think say, jemison, is really close to that right now.

The counter to my above argument is likely that the teams should know everything about a player but how many times have we heard of a random screening catching a heart defect, blood clot, etc that has been missed for years. Just having a bagel and a cup of coffee can throw off blood work.

the bolded is what i expected the whole time, as opposed to something nefarious like many are suggesting (that charlotte knew what we would see AND that we wouldn't like it). i think it's possible they didn't see the same things (different procedure, focus, tools, etc.) OR that they just didn't think it was as big a deal (or expected we knew we'd see it?).

i think the league would argue that the ability to nix based on your team doctor's evaluation IS the lemon insurance you seek. but yeah, it puts everyone in a bind when absolutely nothing can be done. seems like some sort of arbitration process should be possible in exceptional situations like this one.

yeah, i don't know that teams can know everything at all times about their own players, much less other teams'. i've seen some bloggers out there being like "why didn't the lakers know ahead of time?!", and i'm like...why should they have? that's nuts. these are private records, and this is the reason you get to examine the player prior to the deal being finalized. because you can't know ahead of time.

Agreed on both. My initial reaction was that they got one over on us, but i paused a bit when they said it wasn't his back or knees. Now that I'm really thinking about how dumb it would be to purposely withhold information my stance here has softened and absent real evidence to the contrary I'm willing to give the Hornets the benefit of the doubt.

There's definitely a lot of privacy issues here and a huge margin of error for what a team may or may not know. I never faulted us for not knowing his medicals before the trade because there is no way for us to know that without the player granting us access and that is as it should be. No way would I want any company to just be able to go and get medical records without my permission.

My guess is it’s a heart condition or the dreaded blood clots

I think it may not even be that serious or career threatening.
It just happened we couldn't amend the trade and were giving up 2 FRPs.
We clearly found something and felt the price was too steep, so we could only accept to give all our assets or void the trade.
Maybe if the deal had been made a week before, there could have been some adjustment on the package.

Turns out he's dealing with 5 baby mama's at once, and the paperwork nightmare is so horrendous for child support compliance (They know after dealing with Dwight) that they don't want anything to do with it.

I heard they found bone fractures in his foot. I didn’t see the source, those were the rumours.

I expect we’d try to do the trade if we could keep our first and offer an additional second. Not sure if the league reopens it to amend the trade. Seems like an exception rule could be made in these kind of scenarios - no assets can be added only substituted.

I think there would be an uproar from the rest of the league if they allowed us to modify the trade past the deadline. Seems like there's already a lot of frustration with our getting Luka. Teams wanted to believe we'd be terrible for years after LeBron retired.

yeah, that would definitely be a pretty huge concern.

yeah, in this case simply adding heavy protections to the picks with no compensatory additions (don't turn into seconds, just don't convert) would be the only way i'd do it. even at that, you may be giving up a guy who's likely to have a 10-year nba career for someone who may struggle to see the floor on a long-term basis.

I just cannot get on the Jemison bandwagon. I hate his attitude, you gotta earn that disrespectful chip he carries on his shoulder. He is going to hurt someone someday.

Perhaps but this scenario really needs a rule added to make it a better fit for all teams. Just ruling on it based on it being the Lakers is just another BS interpretation made to appease a bunch of Ahole owners.

Oh I agree that there should some mechanism for modifying trades post-deadline. But I don't think there is one currently, and if the league decides to make one for us there is going to be anger from other owners.

so, making good rules depends on the anger of the owners who clearly would make rules based on who you are and not what is right for everyone?
