don't like that dallas overloaded the frontcourt in this deal. i also HATE the grimes deal that followed the luka trade. but they still have a lot of talent and the tools to be a top defensive team with AD, kyrie and klay capable of propping up a solid half-court offense. not best in west, but not as far off as people are suggesting. doesn't excuse the luka trade, though.
Is this the greatest Laker trade deadline of all time? It may be, right? He went ALL-in on this team, we are a contender right now, even if not a favorite, we have a shot now, that’s all you can really ask for. Hell yeah, Rob, well done.
This is the best deadline I’ve seen. It’s up there in excitement with the Nash/Dwight offseason, the CP3 veto and getting Pau out of the blue. I’m not sure if he is done yet, he will most likely look to get under the 1st apron and be active on the buyout market too. Executive of the year stuff.
I’m almost ready to say that Westbrook was the sole miss in Pelinka’s tenure. And obviously it was a big miss lol, and the stagnation after that was really frustrating. But Rob’s patience played off. Both with resetting with the DLo/Vando trade and now this deadline, I think he did the best job possible with our limited assets and could never have imagined our franchise would be in this position!
The Luka and Mark Williams deals both came out of left field. He knows how to keep secrets and not leak. Great deadline. Hopefully, it isn't negated by any unfortunate injuries, and we get a chance to see what this team can do fully healthy.
Wizard. Really ridiculous the hate he gets. The thing is everyone who mistakenly have been hating him will just continue their life and bad takes. This thread should be full of "I was wrong" posts
Have to give Rob his props He did a magnificent job of getting us players for us to compete for multiple championships That's what we've all been wanting And here it is #18 and more Go Lakers!
what would it take to get there now? is there someone on a long-term contract that nobody wants but makes that much less than kleber? such that they can take on kleber's short-term cost for the longer-term benefit of clean books after next year (or kleber as an expiring). if not, we have rui/gabe/kleber adding up to like 40 million in expiring money next year, just in case things aren't working... russ, letting caruso walk (still biting us--imagine he's here right now...), drafting jhs (this is a distant third). other than those, i've been quite happy with rob since magic left. we had some bad luck with the gabe and vando injuries, but i think those were good/sensible signings at the time, and their contributions of late are supporting that idea. many more hits than misses, and he's operated with higher expectations and without the financial impunity that many other gms with similar expectations get.
You have to differentiate between the process and the results. Rob’s process has been quite good the whole time - all the way back to the summer after the bubble championship. If this team implodes due to injuries, there’s nothing to be sorry about. As a fan, this is the most you can ask for. We are contending in the present and have a superstar and some decent young guys to carry into the future. Rob played his hand perfectly and that’s the most he can do as an executive. Gotta give it to him!
Rob has GM'd his a** off, this trade season, hands down. This is some Jerry West level s***. Salute!!!
We need Luka , Bron , Austin , Gabe , DFS Rui and Hayes to stay healthy . Would be enough to win it all Vando and Williams would be great , but unfortunately seems quite a stretch
I’ve been hard on Rob when he’s made dumb mistakes. I’ve also been quick to give him his flowers when he does great things. This whole “hate” thing is nonsense. I just call it like I see it. He, in my book, is EOTY for just the miraculous Luka trade. TNT is so biased interviewing Dunleavy I’ve the “great” trade he made to bring in Jimmy. Rob deserves way more credit for bringing in a guy who could go down as a top 10 player of all time if he keeps up his current pace.
