Dalton may turn out to be one heck of a player, but he’s not ready for a deep playoff run yet and what will be required of him if he cannot perform consistently during the regular season. To have to ship him out as part of a deal to get a major position of need? I find this completely acceptable.
Good luck Dalton, I think you would have been untouchable if you had better defense! Wish you all the best and pray for your health. But we got Mark freaking Williams!!!
I love DK. But if you can get a starting center at the exact same age you gotta pull the trigger. Go be great in Charlotte DK.
I guess I was the only one around here not really enamored with Dalton. Seems like a good kid and has some great tools on offense but he's just not good on D and seems to be lacking in the IQ department. I tend to value the latter two ingresients a lot amd just never saw it with him long term. That being said, good luck going forward kid! I'm sure he'll have a good career and score lots and lots of points.
Totally agree on all that. He's so young: his D should improve, and we hope he feeds his mind as well as hitting shots from everywhere on the court. Wish him well. I won't miss those painful, at least once-per-game moments when he looked like a matador on defense; player slips around him for an easy bucket and DK has this look of exasperation on his face. It happens to the best of 'em, but it happened to DK a lot, considering his minutes.
I think he’s going to be good eventually, he can shoot the hell out of the ball, he attacks the basket strong, and he doesn’t seem afraid at all of the big moments. But yeah, he’s not on our win right now timeline and he was one of the only players we have left with actual trade value. Have a feeling JJ and Bron were getting more and more tired of yelling at him being in the wrong spot a number of times lately, he kept seeming to forget the play was called for him. And the defense, it just isn’t there at all right now, he’s always a step behind and often out of position or scrambling. I hope he gets better, wish him well, but I’m not really upset.
Thats how I see it as well. Really you can't expect teams to take our scrubs for decent value. The fact that we now have a "core" is already a miracle. To me it still remains to be seen if Bron, Reaves and Doncic can work together. Reaves looked good with the ball in his hands....so do the other 2 guys. Our biggest need right now is a 3 and D guy.....not just a normal 3 and D guy (those scrubs are dime a dozen) but someone who really defends on a high level and can shoot 8 3s a game at 40%...I know, those are not growing on threes but that'd be the one piece that this team is in need of and another big body who can defend and block shots. You want to get through the Nuggests, OKC etc...you need to content their bigs.
Yeah, I agree. As the season progressed it became apparent Dalton was a 2-3 year project. He will get more playing time in Charlotte as they'll have more patience with his development.
i think DFS was as close as we could get here. i'm not even sure how many guys there are in the league who actually fit your description. maybe not any? i think he could have progressed faster if we were focused on his development moreso than winning. hoop iq/defense requires in-game reps, and we couldn't afford to give him those here. charlotte can, so we'll see. i think it will be a win/win move, as rob discussed after the luka trade--you're not trying to get one over on the other guy. you're trying to help each other achieve what may be different goals. charlotte's trying to conjure/develop good players; we're trying to win now.
I'm going to miss the many threes he would have hit in the purple and gold. But, along with the Eagle and Max I will keep my eye on his development.
