Problem is -- 2 of them are basically the same player prototype and the third one used to be more, but is old.
I’m sorry, I don’t see the problem. Luka gets to learn from one of the best ever to run a team. I’m dumbfounded how many here can paint this trade as anything but miraculously positive for our Franchise that puts us in contention for the next 8-10 years.
It's not a problem. Or if it is, it's a good one to have in terms of having three amazing passers on the team. I'm nowhere near as gung ho as you about the trade as I really loved what AD brought to the team (and Max) and I'll miss those guys. I'm not as much of a Luka fan as a lot of folks here are. But that said, it was definitely the smart play and right move by our FO to do the trade. It sets up us immediately post Lebron with a superstar who is only 25 years old. It had to be done once it was on the table. I will absolutely agree about that.
LeBron’s post-game interview was also kind of subdued, didn’t speak much on Luka, just very matter of fact. Probably just trying to not look to outwardly happy with AD being gone, or maybe genuinely still processing it.
Max and Reaves were becoming a really dynamic young backcourt. And I miss AD immensely already so I can’t imagine how his teammates must feel, especially LeBron and Reaves.
Read the comments. Even the Reaves trolls are becoming more scarce …. fans are wising up to how valuable a player he is to this team and winning basketball.
Yeah he needs to stick around, find defense at other positions, or have him come off the bench and run the 2nd unit eventually at worst, would make for a hell of a bench.
Yup, AR (and his contract) are awesome. Im not trading him for anything other than a GREAT center (or an all star, Giannis/Ant type). Him, Luka and Bron will figure it out and play well together. Just watch
Him with Luka and Bron is plenty of offense, they should be able to make it work on that end with pretty much any players at the remaing positions. Just go grab an elite defender at the center spot and put Vando on the S5 and let's go!
we need a backcourt defender to replace max, too. but yeah, reaves/lebron/luka is formidable offensively. all three can score at three levels, handle, and pass. yikes.
I was wrong in my initial reaction to trading Reaves. But I still think he needs to come off the bench for balance. We’d jsut need a POA defender and a big that are decent defensively and I think we can make noise. Reaves in a Manu role is fantastic.
Reaves isn't coming off the bench all of you guys ... Book It. They start him halves and finish halves with him and then ALL kinds of minutes management can be done. Get over it. He's going to be perfect offensively the most minutes for LeBron and Luka. Are you not acknowledging the best 3 players passing trio together on one team in the history of the league!? Nah .... let's trade AR for this or that or how bout maybe this??? Or for some far lesser advantage in the starting lineup let's bring HIM off the bench.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with coming off the bench. At the end of the day, we have to find the best combinations that are conductive to success. I’m not expecting Luka or LeBron to play a huge amount of defence. One will carry the offence and the other is 40. It makes sense to surround those two with good fits. 3 and/or D guys who do the dirty work and spread the floor a bit. I think taking the ball out of Reaves’ hands isn’t ideal when he’s on the floor. But you can’t have 3 of those kind of players at once playing - there’s only one ball to go around. I’d like Reaves to play 30-36 mins leading the bench and average 18/6 with no drop off in protection when one of Luka or Lebron sits.
This won't age well. Book it. You can if they are playing marvelous basketball together. Open your eyes to that. I guarantee you Redick sees it the same way.
You can have 3 of them. But you won’t maximise 3 ball dominant playmakers all on the floor at once. This isn’t anything against Reaves or me being negative on him. I love Austin. But there is only one ball (two if you trade for Lonzo) and you want it in Luka and LeBron’s hands when they’re on the floor. It’s a reason why third options always get less touches and usage, look at Bosh in Miami or Love in Cleveland. There’s ways around this, 3rd options like Klay that don’t need high usage work, or staggering your options on the bench like Manu work well too.
