Absolutely, Luka is over it already. He watched the Lakers destroy the clips. How much better will the Lakers be with him playing? Crazy good. He is going to be thanking those Dallas clowns soon if he isn't already. The play making of LeBron, Luka, and AR, throw in the resurgence of our hustling Defense ala Vando. LeBron was getting that championship vibe even before Luka showed up. You can tell because he is playing defense. I don't mean this as a slight at all, if LeBron didn't believe we hand a good shot he would not be extending himself at this age. I don't think anyone is beating LeBron and Luka in a seven-game series. If you had put Magic and Bird on the same team not much else would have mattered. We have some nice-looking regular season teams out there, but we shall see how they hold up in the playoffs. This is going to be better than kelp salsa.

 

The majority seem to be talking as if Doncic re-signing with the Lakers is a shoo-in. “Next decade” etc. Is this just optimism? Every other team who has any desire to win (and the cap to offer) will throw everything at him including presentations, extras, personnel, money, etc.

If he walks in 2.5 years, we still have to praise Rob for this move no matter what right? Even if we end up signing a 2nd tier star (I looked at the 2026 FA list, there is no Giannis, Tatum, Jokic, or SGA on it). You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who declines a deal like this esp when the opposing GM initiates this.

I am foreign to the salary cap language/CBA structure etc, so I have no clue at which year precisely we can even formally and legally initiate/offer the extension. Anyone know?

 

Why would Luka leave? The Lakers are playing championship caliber basketball without him they look like a dark course title contender with Luka coming back soon and they haven’t even made another move for a big man yet. The Lakers are the greatest franchise in NBA history there is no reason to think he would want to leave Luka has the opportunity of a life time to lead the Lakers for the next decade. There is nothing like winning a championship with this franchise and this city.

 

He makes the most money signing with us. And we can give him the most options to maximize his earnings. It's likely he signs a 3-year extension this summer, making him eligible to sign a max worth 35% of the salary cap in 2028.

So unless something goes wrong in the next 3-4 months, he's going to be with us for the foreseeable future.
