League sources say the Lakers have been attempting to use the contracts of Gabe Vincent ($11 million this season, $11.5 million next) and Maxi Kleber ($11 million this season; $11 million next season) in this pursuit. One significant hurdle, however, is that Kleber (who came to the Lakers in the Dončić deal) can only be traded in a one-for-one deal rather than being aggregated. Conceivably, that takes options like Atlanta big man Clint Capela (who is on an expiring deal worth $22.2 million) off the board.

I am going to guess we will absolutely see Lebron take another pay cut this summer. You should see much more interest in free agents willing to come here with Luka and Lebron as the pitch. I wouldn't be surprised if Lebron takes a lot less either

 

It's tough to find a trade that makes sense with just Kleber's salary. Adams and Rob Williams make just a little too much. Valanciunas works but he is not the type of center this team needs now. Maybe Chris Boucher? That's kind of it.

 

Capela is washed and scrubbed. f*** him. Lakers need a Steven Adams type big.

 

One name to maybe watch out for is Jericho Sims from the Knicks. 6'10" 245 pounds. He's fallen out of the regular rotation as he's behind KAT and Achiuwa at center, now Robinson is coming back. He's on a $2 million deal. I think he's a little better than Hayes. Certainly not ideal, but could be a stop gap that barely costs anything.

 

Steven Adams used to be pretty decent before his injury, haven't followed him since.

He's washed and scrubbed more than Capela. At least he's cheaper.

When it comes to getting a big, it's seems to be obvious, that we really aren't willing to move Rui. That's a curious thing to me, because Rui doesn't seem to fit as much anymore. Luka raises our scoring punch significantly. You would assume that Vando and Finney-Smith will get more minutes as the season progresses, because we gotta have some kind of defensive minded guys in the rotations. Wood is throughly capable of making a Vando type of return. (Looking totally healed from his injury) all this makes refusing to trade Rui a bit odd.

Now one thing I will point out, is Rob's comment about making a move this summer for a big. Rui's contract also becomes an expiring deal next season. So perhaps trading Rui now, might have come with adding extra draft compensation? Maybe that's a different story over the summer?

I expect someone to get salary dumped, maybe a couple of guys. Detroit still has a ton of free cap space. They might come down to a 2nd rd pick to get access to it.

 

I’m sure Rob has asked Chicago about Jalen Smith but if he hasn’t he should.Seems like the kind of big man JJ wants for his offense
