Sure just the old difference of opinion cover rather than getting into the weeds a bit with it about a real important topic right now in Max. This is something I admire about Slick. He will come back with logical point by point rebuttal in an easily readable way and often enough get me to see things a bit differently. Your style …. wow thanks for the conversation. Weak.

My personal belief is we had little chance at winning a championship this year. Sure maybe a very small outside chance but that’s it. A lot of people were already commenting on how hard and how long it will take to get the next star after Bron retires. Well we got that with this trade. It makes it less likely we are winning another championship in Bron’s window but that’s window is closing rapidly if it was even open at this point in time. This is a swing for the fences kinda of move for our future and I take that chance 10 out of 10 times. It might not work out but there are no guarantees in life. The Lakers are know to go big game hunting and we got our guy. I don’t understand how the same people complaining that we were going to be in the Shara desert after Bron retires are the ones complaining about getting a superstar. You can’t have your cake and eat it too, even if we are the delusional Laker fans that all the other teams fan sites say we are.

As we think about center trades we can make before the deadline this week, its worth noting that the 2031 pick is going to be much less valuable now. Judging by the reaction to this trade from all the anonymous executives, teams won't be in a rush to help us fill the glaring holes we have.

That's part of why I'm more open to trading AR than I was before this trade. I'm not saying we should necessarily be actively shopping him, but he's the best asset we have now and his skillset has become more redundant. If you could get a high level 3&D player at the 2, or a legit rim running/protecting center, you'd have to consider it.

How many trades and FA signing did we hear that were coming here for sure and never materialized?

How long were we supposed to wait for the next superstar to be available?

This was a sure thing and the Lakers had to make this move

It was an opportunity that could not be passed by

If we add center depth, I’m not ruling this team out of for a chip this year.

I get that but I think we need AR for our 2nd big swing. We are losing Bron for nothing so we need players that hold enough value to get us a strong pairing with Luka.
As AR is not the perfect pairing, he can helps get a big/forward that is in the near future. Someone like Markannen, Jalen Johnson or Barnes may become available soon and AR allow us to get them.

I'm also not in a rush to use our picks. We can used them now, summer or next deadline. It's our last available FRP so I want to be sure on what will be the biggest need and fit.
I think JJ likes to play small ball. We are 4-0 this year without AD, despite not having a god backup. I think we will now build the team that way. We need to get bigger though

Just responding to all these of course everyone's mileage may vary, but after undervaluing AD from so many, what AR contributes in totality and the WINNER (don't grow on trees) fearless attitude ..... is going the same route with some of you. All because he's not an uber athlete. He has improved every single year markedly in his all around game and isn't done doing that. Look how incredible his handle is getting out there running the point and doing everything else he does. Reggie and Doris kept bringing it up. Same as Max is going to keep improving. Except Max has a much longer runway and superior athleticism and strength in his future at 22 years old starting now.

    Some of the highlights
Timelord isn't healthy enough to be relied on to this degree. I'm fine with Poeltl though.

That's a no given the current roster.

Brought this up in the Rob thread. Wish we had the big man trade lined up when we pulled this trigger or before and blindside the other team with the Luka trade afterwards.

like clockwork folks who have ripped AD his entire time here suddenly appreciate his game.

I’m sorry if you don’t like my reasons that backup my opinion. I didn’t have time today to go back and forth and back and forth.

If Rob had passed on this opportunity and we found out about it this summer, I can guarantee that most of us here would be pissed off.

The only thing here to comment on is that MAYBE there’s still a way to get that equal chance to win it all this year IF we get a center. I agree our odds were better before the trade for Luka, but who knows. Maybe something else wild happens and we get that chance back. We’ll see

the league hates us. LOL. I get people wanting the pick, thinking LeBron would leave and we’d have nothing and thus this is the chance at a lottery pick, but obviously Rob knew that too. And now everyone goes “Well, Luka can get 40+ wins” and they all say “Never mind”.

THEY HATE US. I’ve know this for years, but they HATE US BAD

The latter makes sense. My comments and extensive list and all the glimpses I have seen in the 2 and a half years .... of why he will be playing LIKE an all star whether voted in or not in his prime are up there and can wait. ;) To do that is not some huge leap. It could happen extremely soon if Kidd lets him show what he can DO with the option to put it to use in games like he couldn't here. And get the REPS in. For sure in two - three years all he has to be doing for that to be a reality is be averaging 20-25 points a game. With his build, getting stronger by the week, looks to me, great athleticism, smoothness and coordination. He shows it on D and rebounding and he's already doing the from deep part consistently now at 22, while starting to figure out the much more easy finishes at the basket when he blows by people than trying to dunk all the time showing the ball .... with good enough handles NOW.

Its obvious the Lakers aren't done, they have to make a move because the current roster construction. Hoping we can get stuff done by tomorrow/Tuesday but probably closer to the actual deadline is more likely.
