Well no choice but for everyone to fully back Rob now. He’s definitely not going anywhere after this trade.
Where I credit Rob here is that we didn’t give up both picks or Reaves. So even though it sounds like the Mavs initiated this, we got a generational talent and kept some assets.
i think what this highlights is that sometimes all it takes is one relationship. supposedly, rob and nico had one, and that's why this played out like it did. i do think sometimes rob's lack of relationships (or existing bad ones) harmed us in trade negotiations, but the few he has forged got us AD and then luka.
"Lakers tax? No sir, we got ourselves a Lakers & Rob Pelinka DISCOUNT! Didn't have to include Reaves, Knecht, or 2031 pick in the deal!" -Bob Todd, probably
My only complaint and I'm willing to let it slide. We did just get Luka. But the complaint is we should've found the trade for the center before or at the same time as the Luka deal. 1) we're more desperate for a center. 2) the first is less valuable now because Luka is here for probably the next decade.
Since it will take at least through the summer to build this properly, I’m fine with the timing. We just got ourselves a Perennial MVP Player!
Hats off to Jeanie and Rob, they pulled a move Pops would be proud of..We are the Lakers, we take other team's superstars and win chips with them. That's who we are...let's hope this trade leads to more hardware..to add to the collection soon !!
Once again, patience is worthy. If we had burned our picks or traded Max in the summer as many wanted, we wouldn't have Luka. NBA is constantly changing, there's a lot of dynamics and dominos falling and you just got to have assets in position for when the opportunity appears. Same approach to how we use our remaining pick: see if there's anything worthy, if not, hold it for the summer or next deadline, when we have a better clue of this roster needs
I hear you JSM, but when a move like this is available, you take the best player (in this case a young superstar that allows us to build for the future), and figure stuff out over the summer if necessary. Besides, we might not actually be done yet.
It’s true that the Mavs reached out to Rob but there’s quite a few members on this board that would have liked him to say no and hang up the phone. So that’s a win for Pelinka in my book.
Rob's ( and Jeannie's) world is righfully heaven right now but it's going to be a LOT of pressure for them soon . Not being able to compete for a title with an old Lebron is understandable to an extent , you can find excuses at worst . Not being able to compete for a title with a top 3 player in the league who is going to turn 26 would be inexcusable
That remains the wildest aspect of this to me. Like most, I was always operating on the assumption that it would take around 5 first round picks, swaps, etc to get a guy like that. We only gave up one pick and I honestly think we could have made this trade with Knecht if we didn't have the picks. This is up there on the crazy list of trades I can think of in any sport. Being patient is valid though.
