fox is talented, but this team shouldn't be paying someone 30 mil to be a 3rd option. i'll stick with reaves at 15 mil as the 3rd option

we would have won with lopez, too, would be the argument. and he proved to be a better player than both combined and for a much longer time after that.

what's really funny about lopez is that every year before he came to us, he was a minus on on defense. then with us, he was ok. then after that, he became one of the better defensive centers in the league for a few years. really weird career arc for that guy--went from really good on offense and bad on defense to really good on defense and meh on offense.

btw, the rumor mill being silent a week out from the deadline might mean actual talks are happening instead of posturing via the media.

edit: also, looks like the pacers might be trying to move mathurin, toppin, or (haven't seen this one rumored) nesmith so that they'll have room to re-sign turner.

all three are rotation quality players that they should be able to move. question is whether they could recoup anything useful besides just expiring salary (which they do need, i think). guessing they're dangling all three and will take the best deal available for just one of them, keeping the others.

too bad those aren't positions of need for us. wonder if there are any teams out there i missed who are in similar positions regarding future luxury tax and might need to shed useful players.

I would consider trading Austin for Fox if we had a parallel deal that brought us back a serviceable C.
That being said, with how our FO has operated the past few years, I believe that they think our chances to win another Chip with LeBron/AD are slim to none.
If my hypothesis is about the FO is correct, it’s one I agree with, so for me, it comes down to: do you want Fox or Reaves as your most valuable piece after LeBron and AD are gone?
I’m fine with either, but slightly prefer Austin because he’s our home grown talent.

Right. Plus the whole topic was just guys who got away in seasons past for whatever reason.

Right. I wasn't initially high on the move when we got him but he won me over pretty quickly.

He would've been a better long term fit than any of the other guys we've brought in since though Dwight was a big part of us getting past Denver.

lol, i HATED that trade because i didn't like trading a recent lotto pick for an expiring, just to get off money that we weren't sure we were going to need.

of course, we ended up getting lebron (and the pick that got kuzma in the deal). then lopez played pretty well, and i was like, ok, not bad. we have his bird rights. i thought we might retain him at a price just over the mle, and that deal looks a lot better! then we let him walk for a vet min, lol.

AD's injury in 2021 might have spared us some serious heartache had we lost to milwaukee in the finals with the center we basically gifted them playing a pretty large role.

It sounds like another veteran center is off the board for the Los Angeles Lakers as the Feb. 6 trade deadline draws nearer.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Thursday that "the prevailing league wide sense" is that the Indiana Pacers "do not want to trade" longtime center Myles Turner, who was rumored to be a candidate to be moved before next week's deadline.
Turner trade possible only if the Pacers receives a starting five center
Koloko or Hayes isn't that .

i think if they could get a starting center back, they'd consider it. so it would have to be a three-team deal, and the third team would have to want rui/jhs, and there would have to be enough picks to satisfy everyone.

really think indy just makes another move now or in the summer to shave about 10 million off the payroll so they can afford to re-sign turner above what the cap space teams have.

irwin saying we're looking at gabe/jhs/2nds for bogdanovic.

i wondered when i saw his name out there if we'd call, mostly because lebron and AD watched him almost beat them by himself this summer, lol.

he's having a terrible year, and there's a team option on his 26-27 salary. not sure why we'd be sending seconds, tbh. possible we could be downgrading.

but if you want offensive creation, he's proven he can do it. just not this year. gotta be fearful, as he's right at the age when guards tend to fall off of cliffs.

it's getting near vucevic or bust territory, it seems.

if we did the rumored trade for bogdanovic, we could move rui/wood or hayes/heavily protected 1st or swap for vuc.

    vuc/hayes/koloko
    AD/vando
    lebron/DFS/knecht
    reaves/bogdan
    max/shake

it's super meh, but it accomplishes both goals (creator, center) and both guys incoming are on the same expiring contracts that rui and gabe are on.

i'm not sure it improves the team, though.

No thanks. I'd rather just get Vuc if possible.
