And all it will take is some mediocre picks. EFF THEM PICKS.

In 4-6 years, prime Reaves, Christie, Knecht, and Kessler will be contending for a chip next to an aging like fine wine AD doing a Tim Duncan impersonation who at 38 years old was a huge contributor to a championship team!!! :giggle:

the problem is that irwin amplifies any information that could be construed as a criticism of the front office, rob in particular. it makes it really hard to listen to him about anything. it's like fox news, tbh. not meaning to get political, but everyone can acknowledge the bias there, right? same with irwin. so "vando as backup center" sounds insane, and he amplifies it. now, utah also saw vando as a backup center before they traded him, so i'm not entirely sure that irwin didn't hear something like this. but the idea that this is plan A is total b*******. it's like, plan F.

again, jj wouldn't have publicly expressed interest in a big center if his whole idea was to play vando at center. one of his ideas might be to play vando at center (i hate it, but i'm just a rando), but it's not THE PLAN. moreover, it's not ROB'S PLAN, which is what irwin wants to peddle. he's probably mad rob made the DFS move because it undercuts his persistent, stupid narrative.

i'm missing some context here, but as someone who's been protective of trading future picks, i think you're strawmanning a bit here. i don't think anyone believes that old AD/reaves/max/knecht/kessler is anything but a 13th place team. but in terms of asset management, moving 1sts for young players (who might later be moved for replacement firsts as necessary) is a much better strategy than moving firsts for old guys who will cease being useful and thus turn to dust, asset-wise.

this is why i'm ok with two firsts (with protections, of course) for kessler, but not for jerami grant.

As I've said before: I'm okay with trading the firsts for an ascending player under 30 with a bright future and already a history of proving he could play at the NBA at a high level. That's fine. I'm not okay with throwing a first an older player with a smaller shelf life.

Sure, we don't know if those firsts will amount to anything, but if history indicates anything, we're going to need them if we want to land impact pieces in the future. Hopefully All-Star pieces will good enough players/contracts to make it work.

    Let's see what happens.

By the way prayers out to Los Angeles. Really sucks to see that beautiful part of LA just destroyed to absolutely nothing. Such a shame.

    Another injury for Pelicans
    Out indefinitely with labrum tear
    January 10, 2025
Herbert Jones (shoulder) was diagnosed Friday with a torn labrum, which will keep him out indefinitely.
Is it time to trade Zion ?

i'd be pretty surprised if the pels don't trade zion or eventually shut him down for the season considering they have 7 wins. can't risk ruining the tank

Keep all the firsts to eventually trade for our next big “star.”

Question: Is removing the protection from our 2027 first-round pick owed to Utah worth anything in terms of draft capital? Utah has a boatload of draft picks coming up, and might not even have enough roster space for them. Maybe the Lakers could send over a 2025 second-round pick and protection removal from the 2027 pick in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick? Would that be worth it? I'm talking about something like the Wolves pick (top-14 protected). It would give us another first-round pick to use in a potential trade.

I'd go all out and trade for Zion IMO, his stock will never be this low again barring more injuries, and his contract is not bad if he actually plays.

it's a similar situation in terms of value to Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn that we unfortunately missed out on.

Zion + Theis for Rui + Vando + Gabe works in terms of salary.

or just grab another big on buyout market.

Zion, the same dude who is always showing up late for practice, refuses to get into any shape but round and has missed 207 games so far in five seasons?
    You guys want that dude???

agree. we're in big swing territory, as there is no amount of small moves that can get us into contention right now. if you can get a zion-level talent without giving up a bunch of future picks, you do it, imo. i'm dubious his value has gotten that low, and i'm even more dubious that NO would trade him to us under any circumstances.

anyway, lots of folks didn't want young or lavine this summer, and i'm guessing most people feel pretty differently about that now. same could happen with zion.

No way NOP takes our crap to get rid of Zion. After the AD trade (his demand basically), i'll be shocked if they trade with us again.
