Was having this discussion with a buddy last night. We're a penny pinching, ma and pa shop running the leagues most valuable franchise. It's a joke and as you said, firing Rob doesn't fix that.

Also, if anyone wants a fun multiverse experience, go back and read this thread exactly 2 years ago. Honestly forgot what timeline I was in within a couple of posts. From that summer until the deadline, literally everything being said now was being said then. What happened next? Rather than panicking and giving up multiple 1sts to dump Westbrook, they waited until the deadline to make a trade that propelled the team to the WCF.

I repeat, this is not an "In Rob We Trust" post. Couldn't care less if Rob gets axed. I'm just of the belief that teams have been trying to fleece us and the FO was hoping the team could stay afloat until we get to trade season.

Lastly, if you told me in 2018 when Lebron joined that we'd win 1 title, but be entering a rebuild situation in 2024, I'd have said yes please! The only surprise is that he maintained an elite level as long as he did. Now just don't go giving up any of our future 1sts for Valanciunas or Dorian Finney-Smiths of the world.

I’m glad Rob won’t hand out the firsts in just any trade, but he failed miserably this summer by not getting a serviceable big or decent PG to replace DLO and or Gabe.
He’s not the worst GM, but if he’s planned this season to be one that sets us up for a rebuild from scratch this summer, he’s doing a great job!

I wonder why we had zero margin for error, like whose job it is to give us a larger one, hmm

Kobe didn't have friends until the final two years when he knew it was over and he was just soaking up the experience. It's also a very different league. Rivalries don't exist and AAU basketball made everyone best friends.

    EDIT

Maybe LeBron and Bronny should GO BACK to CLE since CLE is pretty good this yr and get his lousy ring

I mean I’m on record saying when we drafted him I couldn’t believe he’d be getting a full roster spot and not a 2-way. Using the 55th pick on him, ok, not a huge deal, but full 4 year contract, yikes. I’m not sure he’ll ever be an NBA player, right now he’s a publicity stunt and a jersey seller and nothing more. I agree we couldn’t afford to be wasting roster spots on that sort of thing with our lack of depth. I guess LeBron is probably resigned to never winning another title and just having these sort of moments instead, which is hard for Laker fans to accept, but I suppose he doesn’t really have anything left to prove in his career.

yeah, i've just swallowed the reality. and lebron's been quieter because of it, which keeps my blood pressure down, lol. when he was whining about our lack of movement in the aftermath of his westbrook trade, i was not happy.

i was bummed we didn't bring back dinwiddie this summer, especially when it was clear he was going to be a vet min. and i looked dumb for the first ten games of the season, but since then, he looks like a guy we could have really used. oh well...

I was also mad we let Dinwiddie walk, but when I listed him leaving along with Prince (who currently has the highest 3 point FG percentage in the league by the way) as reasons why the roster this year is slightly worse, I was told Prince sucked Dinwiddie didn’t do anything here, and there wasn’t minutes for him anyway with us having DLo, Reaves, Max and Gabe back. Dinwiddie isn’t a star, but I also don’t think we used him right. I’m really tired of us letting guys go like that just because they weren’t used right by one coach, and I also think it’s a fair criticism to be upset we couldn’t find a way to use 2nd rounders to dump guys like Cam, Hayes, Lewis, etc for cash to open up roster spots for better players. Guys like Walker, Fultz, Payton are still out there, and guys like Tyus Jones were there at the time to be had for the minimum. I just wish we had a more creative FO, someone or someones that go out and make stuff happen on the margins.

i actually think we've been creative in a few instances, but yeah, i was hoping we'd dump one of the vet mins into cap space using a 2nd in order to get a spot. i still go back to dallas being able to dump thj for space and get grimes back whilst only paying three seconds. that was like us getting rui for nunn. but this also goes back to whatever the league's issue with dlo is. or maybe we (justifiably) felt dlo was worth more (both to us and on the open market) to make a deal like that. still, none of those cap space teams would take a vet min off our hands for a couple seconds? i'd like to hear the real story there, but rob can't be leaking info about how we tried to dump three members of the team while they're still on the team.

that said, we didn't know wood would be hurt, and we've actually used reddish and hayes a fair amount more than i expected (partially due to injuries). i think rob and company weren't sure the vet mins we could get (walker, fultz, payton, dsj) were better than the vet mins that opted in. i think it' a fair question, too. only tyus jones was OBVIOUSLY better than our guys (this is before we knew wood died), and jones was going to take the guaranteed starting job at phx over a spot here.

Couldn't agree more. This is going nowhere. I'd like to see another championship before I kick the bucket and this ain't it.

Unfortunately i think Rob will end up blowing thsi up after this year...we have to stay competitive this year since our pick goes to NOP so no reason to blow it up yet

But after this summer? We got every reason to give up on this roster
