He’s not saving this, he had his chance in the summer to make moves to help us on the margins and he did nothing. At most all he’s going to do now is overpay for Jonas relatively soon, and then wait until the deadline to do anything else, if anything at all. And by the deadline it is too late, the west is too deep. I believe when we lost the Orlando game we were like 3rd in the west, after this loss tonight we are 10th. A 9 game stretch is all it took to drop that far. You make like solidifying the roster moves at the deadline, you don’t make season saving moves, champion making moves, you make those kind of moves in the offseason, then you have a training camp, preseason, early season to gel as a team. You don’t have time to do that after the deadline, 2022 feels more and more like a fluke at this point.

So hold up!!! You are telling me..After 20 different times, at least, that I've hit you with the Denver Dynasty thing, tonight is the only time, you've decided to reveal that it wasn't you?

After the 4 times in this thread tonight? After my comment to Weezy about he knows where that comment was directed? GTFOH

Oh hell yeah I said that, I said until it happened I don't believe it. Hell yeah, I totally own that. It hadn't happened.

And what I said about defense was, having the ability to score on a good defense, is more important than just playing good defense. Everybody is playing good defense late in the playoffs, not everyone has the ability to get buckets when faced with good defense. That's why we couldn't beat Denver. The offense choked, they weren't playing some kind of suffocating defense, we were missing wide open shots. A whole gang of them. Again context matters, it not just about taking part of what I said, and running with it.

I don't think we are going to wait until the deadline though. I also don't think that Valanciunas is going to be the only move. If it turns out that way, I'm going to be shocked. We might swing and miss, but do nothing? I don't believe it's going to go down like that.

I’m not like rooting for this, it’s just what’s likely to me, no teams make trades 20-30 games in. Trevor talked about it on LN tonight, the asking prices at this moment are silly, everyone wants a first round pick for every player they have. Prices don’t come down until like January or the last week before the deadline more likely. That’s why I’m not railing against Pelinka to make moves right NOW, some can’t be done til Dec 15, but really the time to make moves was last trade deadline, or the offseason, right now is far too late or too early depending on how you want to look at it. That’s why I say he’s not gonna save this, by the time moves are available it could, and likely will be too late, unless the west is SO tough that teams like 5/6-12 start to bunch up from beating up on eachother and the 6-8 seeds don’t get too far out of reach.

yeah, i think 12/15 is a fantasy unless the valanciunas thing truly was set up in the summer. i wouldn't rule it out, and it would make a few things make sense, but it's still hard to fathom that both teams and the player would all get and stay on board that long.

i posted a figure other day showing how few trades are made in december historically. january is the earliest, and then everyone waits for the big pressure to move in february.

i disagree that deadline moves can't save seasons, though. we went to the conference finals in 2022. the mavs made some moves and went to the finals last year. especially with how slim the margins are in the west.

i'm not saying i'm confident we can do it again, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if some team in the west (maybe gs this year) makes a good move at the deadline that gives them the edge they need to make a run.

i just think the whole team is, like the fanbase, waiting for superman, who may not come. tough job for a first-time coach to navigate that particular psychological situation, but it is what it is.

Welp...I'm going to keep hope alive, I don't think the Wizards hold on to Valanciunas past the end of the month. I also don't think Chicago holds off until the February deadline, before making a trade either.

Trades going down before February, may not be a common practice, but it's not unheard of either.

Last season Harden was traded on Nov 1.

The OG Anonuby/RJ Barrett trade was on December 30th.

Pascal Siakam was traded was on January 17th.

The Kyle Lowry/Terry Rozier trade was on January 17th

We got Rui in January in the previous season.

Like I said, we might very well end up, with a swing and miss, but I'd be shocked if nothing happened before the February trade deadline.

Man I don't have the time or desire to go digging through old posts. Like I said I have directly made that comment to you dozens of times. Last night was the first time you ever said that, you didn't say that. I still find that weird ASF. I mean I would post that comment specifically to bring you out, and you would always show up to respond to it. Nobody but you! That's the wildest coincidence of all time.

    Brutal.

He had a 15 game run of 27/6/7/2 and had been dropping 30+ with ease

Very bizarre both their star Forwards are out with the same injury.

Better better hope Suggs can cook solo for a bit.

It meant exactly what I said, every single word.

Shrug...but you never actually made that statement, and I have been trolling you specifically, with that comment in error, since the playoffs last season, and you have just been randomly responding to it, since the playoffs last season. It's just a total coincidence.

    Ok cool..my bad !!!!:Kobe Shrug:

Would Reaves for Herb Jones be an upgrade? We are 27th in defense and we are slow and unathletic. Herb Jones is an athletic elite perimeter defender who is a slightly below average three-point shooter, in terms of percentage, but is high-volume, and improving. Jones doesn't need the ball like Reaves does. I know Russell is likely on his way out too, so he would be hard to trade both of our skilled guards. But, if you could get a 3 and D wing like Jones, maybe we could go for it, just saying. Maybe we could get LaVine to replace Russell?

    3 trades:

    1. Reaves to New Orleans for Jones

    2. Dlo, Rui, Vando for LaVine and Phillips

    3. Vincent, JHS, Wood, 2025 Clippers 2nd, 2027 Lakers 2nd for Valenciunes and Bey

    4. Convert Quincy to standard contract

    5. Sign veteren PG like Payton or Smith

    PG: LaVine/Payton*/Olivari*
    SG: Knecht/Reddish*/James
    SF: Jones*/Max*/Phillips/Lewis
    PF: James/Bey/Traore*
    C: Davis*/Jonas/Hayes/Koloko*

    * Denotes plus defender

Basically replace Vando with Jones, Reaves with LaVine, Wood with Jonas, Rui with Bey, Vincent with Payton/Olivari, and Dlo minutes with more minutes for Knecht. Also, no first round picks going out.

Jones was on the all-defensive FIRST team last season, and is only 26. Last season, he averaged 1.4 steals, 0.8 blocks, and has a career 1.5 DBPM. Also hit 42% from three last season, albeit mid volume. 1.5 out of 3.6. Career 37% from three.

they're lucky we've been so terrible lately, and it's kept the media from recognizing they're in the same boat.

yeah, it's weird that nobody knows jones. pretty sure pelicans fans would say no the same way we are, tbh. they're similarly valuable players, one offensive, one defensive. both still young and on bargain contracts.
