Meh, I think he wants to compete and understand your point. But it's smart to ride out Bron to the sunset and wait for the next big thing as a HC. Because if some superstar comes, it's for a 5 year window. And you want to ride that group as a young coach where you get plenty opportunities to succeed. Rather than the Lakers going for it this year, use the picks, still fall short and your arse is in the line. If we don't make outstanding moves, JJ can always blame the roster, save his seat and remain the HC until we have a roster to fight again
My concern with holding the picks remains that it will take a lot of luck to get two guys as good as AD and LeBron (even aging limited LeBron) moving forward. I still maintain that you can make a run right now and then if it doesn't work out, use AD to get back the picks we would give plus some. I do agree that JJ should have some leeway, but I don't know how comfortable he will feel given the quick hook we've had in the past. I wouldn't be especially coming after Frank and Darvin.
Shidd..Rob better be careful, JJ will have his job in a few years. He can be bumped upstairs, and hire his own replacement.
Lebron retiring today, doesn't give us 50M to spend on some other "superstar". AD will be making 57M next season 60 plus afterwards. We should make our move now before James retires.
lost in all the "holding the picks" talk is whether spending those picks can upgrade us to contenders right now. who's the player who was had for what we have to offer that we could have gotten? slick will say kryie, i disagree that he was truly available to us (plus they wanted reaves+). mikal bridges took 5 1sts.
I would have sacrificed Austin and Max. Yep..I love me some AR, but yeah he'd have to go for Irving. I really do believe, that Rob is going to make a move Abeer. I might not end up liking it, but I'm expecting something to happen rather quickly after the 15th. I'm telling you now though, I'm going to riot if it involves Malcolm Brogdon.
i'm worried about any move on the 15th simply because it implies desperation. if the selling team doesn't feel the need to wait out the market, they must feel like they got a great deal. the only thing i'm hopeful for is that i don't think valanciunas has much of a market beyond us. the only team that needs a center worse than us is new orleans, who just let him walk in FA while they held his bird rights. that's a bad sign for us, of course, but a good sign for his trade value, imo. i'm hoping rob is playing that possibility against a vuc trade and seeing which of chicago or washington meets his preferred price first.
I think Jonas is ours to be had at his salary, I get the feeling that this was already in place ,when the Wizards picked him up. I also think that the Wizards, want to dump off Brogdon on us in the process. Going in another direction here..what do you think about a Gabe/Max deal for Finney-Smith and Sharpe? It's a minor deal but coupled with Valenucius alone, it's within budget and keeps most of our current roster intact.
yeah, we'll see, but him signing at that number so quickly in FA made me think the wiz signed him to trade him, and he was ok with it. thought it was interesting we signed max to a very similar number... guessing bkn would want a first, and i'd say no. if it was straight up or with seconds, i'd consider it. but adding two centers, i'd like to be able to move wood and hayes for more guard help at that point. lots of shuffling.
That's what I'm saying, he signed with Washington so they can trade him to us. No FRP for DFS, but a lot of folks think that he's all that, around here. I'd pitch low, if someone outbid us...I'm not crying over it.
Idk. Valanciunas getting traded to the Lakers, was the most talked about scenario, with the TV guys, as soon as he signed.
