I think Rob is going to pull off something, that will have the Laker Nation buzzing myself. We'll see
it's just not obvious to me right now where it would come from. there are only a few real tankers this year: west: utah, portland, mayyybe pelicans if they can't get enough guys back healthy of those three, portland seemed disinterested in dealing with us unless we got burned over the summer, and i'm not sure what's changed there. NO might deal with us because they gave our pick away in the dejounte trade. but i don't think they'd send us zion; and i don't know that we want ingram (i'd take him, though!). that leaves utah, which has a ton of options that we could use (kessler, collins, sexton) but would demand picks at a level i'm not sure i like. so you have to look east. washington is the obvious partner, but not for a big deal. still think a jonas trade makes a ton of sense, and there are several paths to it (gabe, max, or vando outgoing with some seconds if it's gabe or vando). i'm a little worried that atlanta's sucking and young is having a down year. the raptors have two vets that interest me (brown and olynyk), but they've each missed the entire year. that leaves the nets, who we also talked to over the summer. i think there are lots of possibilities there, but none are home run swings, and there will be other bidders. tl;dr: i don't think a blockbuster is likely at all. i think we'll make one or two smaller trades, likely involving some of the teams named above. most likely blockbusters are guys like young, lavine, and again mayyybe ingram. and again all unlikely.
how does he still have his job? brought back a medicore team n expects better results merely from having new hc?
We have the most amount of fans out of any franchise in the league, I would guess, right? I think we have the smartest fans in the league. Typically, the fanbase can debate, disagree, etc, etc. That happens most of the time. However, when Rob is trending on Twitter, and Lakers nation is mostly in unison that Rob's a problem (like they did w/Ham), there might be an issue. I'm done with this current iteration of this team, and I'm okay with blowing it up. However, if he chooses to make lateral moves and bring in players that will help, I'm all for it. I just don't know if that will happen. As for his job status? He isn't going anywhere. Jeanie loves the man. Besides, even if he does go anywhere, who is she looking to replace him? Rambis? LOL.
There are still multiple combinations that I think would work here. At the moment I'd settle for Vucevic, Valanciunas and DFS. And (gasp!! LT) keeping Tinkerbell. I hope we don't go Valanciunas and Brogdon tho.
I think the solution is to hire an understudy for Rob who could eventually take over. However, that would need someone intelligent with vision to find this person. Maybe one of the Buss boys has enough discernment to find someone?
Don’t worry, only 10 more games to go, Bob Todd said 30 games needed for evaluation before the season. He’ll make moves then for sure..well maybe at the deadline when he can use expirings. Well… maybe in the offseason when we have THREE first round picks to play with
There’s no clock on him haha. He clearly has Jeanie’s full support in being the meat shield for them both not wanting to do much more than use LeBron to sell tickets and jerseys. Bob Todd isn’t going anywhere, his seat isn’t even warm, hell he might have gotten another secret extension and they just didn’t announce it yet. I can envision he, Jeanie, Linda, Kurt all in a room laughing it up in their insulated little bubble, everyone clinging to their little bits of power not wanting to give an inch of it, delighting that they make so much money off of so little actual work or reputation to actually get where they are. “I was best friends with Kobe!” Pelinka remarks with a dull grin, “yes, yes, we know” the others chime in. “I was a sort of joke fan favorite on teams with some of the best players of all time and have been coasting off of that and pretty much nothing else for 35 years” Kurt says. “Hey, it got me!” Linda jokes, “haha yeah we’re all just one big insulated, increasingly out of touch behind the times team owner and excecs aren’t we, but I’m not giving up my power, no way!”. “I know right, me neither!”, Kurt adds, “not an inch of it, not to qualified younger people who might take us forward into a better future, not to anyone who didn’t used to be a Laker, wasn’t married to a Laker, wasn’t best friends or an agent of a Laker, slept with a Laker, yessir gotta keep it in the family, and even then, gotta keep some family in their place forever, like those chucklehead brothers of yours, Jeanie”. “Wait, but our last 3 coaches weren’t former Lakers and had no ties” Pelinka questioned. “Well, sure”, Kurt replied, “it’s ok if the coaches aren’t family, that way when things go sideways we can can ‘em without emotion and blame everything on them not knowing the Laker way, just not truly being a part of us.” “I mean you remember when Phil was passed over and how messy that got, or when we had to fire Luke, Jeanie agonized over having to let her baby go” Kurt finished”. Finally, they toast to their positions, positions of immovable power, essentially the tenure of the sports world, “can’t be fired when you’re the boss or the boss’ best friends” Kurt laughs, “ahh this is the life folks, never giving it up, just keep rakin in the dough with mediocre teams, it’s all the same money anyway, let Boston concern themselves with the headache and the giant bill trying to win titles now, we’ve got enough for a lifetime of good will from our sucker fans hahahaha!”. That’s how I imagine it going anyway, I mean Pelinka’s wife and Tim Harris could be in the room too, as well as servants bringing them caviar and champagne. But yeah, Bob Todd isn’t going anywhere, there’s no mandate here to do anything, Jeanie isn’t stupid enough to make a public timeline like Jim did, we’ve heard nothing of desperation to improve or play for titles, we’ve heard almost nothing from Jeanie and Bob Todd in general, they’re sitting back riding LeBron out, and then they’ll look for their next box office draw.
It’s time for Rob to get Lebron and AD a 3rd star. Someone who can consistently give us 20 ppg. And for God’s sake give AD some cover in the post.
if lebron's going to play like this, it's time for rob to prepare even more for the post-lebron era, as it's already arrived.
i know the pitchforks are going to be out after this upcoming losing streak, but the kinds of moves that have been possible weren't going to make up for lebron playing this poorly (and AD falling off a cliff offensively for this stretch as well). you don't score 80 points and lose by 29 because you didn't nail the margins.
Lol. I appreciate these rants. But I wonder out loud if JJ ends up being our savior here (which would be a great plot twist for me personally with all the issues I had with the hiring process). He's clearly passionate and competitive. Can't imagine he is going to roll with us sitting on our hands and running the clock completely out with LeBron. That's going to be interesting to watch play out.
