Who will win Defensive Player of the Year?
Since the start of last season, no player has logged more career games (71) with multiple blocks than Victor Wembanyama, who has swatted at least three shots in 11 of 14 appearances this season for a young Spurs team that is learning how to outlast opponents in close games. Wembanyama has posted more blocks (51) than Anthony Davis and Draymond Green combined (46) to go with 18 steals, despite sitting out three games due to injury. -- Michael Wright

    1. Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs: 43 points (67% of first-place votes)

T2. Anthony Davis, Los Angeles Lakers: 16 points (8% of first-place votes)

T2. Draymond Green, Golden State Warriors: 16 points

    4. Dyson Daniels, Atlanta Hawks: 12 points (8% of first-place votes)

T5. OG Anunoby, New York Knicks: 5 points (8% of first-place votes)

T5. Franz Wagner, Orlando Magic: 5 points (8% of first-place votes)

T7. Evan Mobley, Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 points

T7. Jalen Suggs, Orlando Magic: 3 points

T9. Jaren Jackson Jr., Memphis Grizzlies: 2 points

T9. Lu Dort, Oklahoma City Thunder: 2 points

    11. Chet Holmgren, Oklahoma City Thunder: 1 point
So now only blocks considered as defense, Okay

AD won't get the award when we're #26 in defense, right or wrong.

who's who of the league's worst teams...and us.

    upload_2024-11-25_17-11-1.png

    we're 4th in offense, though, so...yay?

we finished last year 15th in offense, 17th in defense, for reference.

so again, as it pertains to this thread, i'd like to look for defensive players on the trade market.

hell, dennis smith jr. is sitting at home right now and was a good pg defender last year.

Man, the hangover effect of us just giving up against Denver has really stayed with me. The disgust, I mean.

It reminded me of a game we played last year, and I wasn't sure which one so I had to look it up: It was against Brooklyn, in LA, last Jan 19. We led 68-62 at half, then they outscored us 38-22 in the 3rd and by 8 in the 4th. It looked like they gave up...for some reason.

I still feel baffled by the Lakers allowing Nugs a 50-17 run after we had a lead. It's too easy to speculate what might have happened internally. I just don't know, but it's been a major downer and confirmed to me: despite winning 6 straight, and BTB games on the road, we're really not that good, and I've reverted to my basic stance about any Laker team: gimme a Top 5 Defensive team, first and foremost. Everything else is secondary to me. And we really do SUCK on defense this year, so I'm readjusting my expectations.

Also: AD bricking those FTs against ORL and playing timidly - even scared - against DEN and Jokic? sobering AF to me.

It’s wild that there are players this talented (and yes I know he isn’t THIS good, but still) just sitting out because there are no roster spots. Fultz and Lonnie Walker as well, just waiting for a spot

Unfortunately we’ve seen teams take lesser offers to spite us in the past.

I think Dennis is looked at fondly now just because he actually played most of the games and generally gave us some kind of contribution most nights on the floor even if it was small. Back to back duds with former Heat guys have guys just wanting someone who at least won’t completely disappear out there every single night.
