Didn't even work him out? Damn.

We can rectify that though. We know you still love Kobe.

^^^ no we had the 2nd pick and took Lonzo, who probably Magic (mainly) wanted as he had been a great local point guard at your (alma mater?) and had great size, speed, athleticism and defensive abilities. Plus his old man. :speechless:

no point thinking about what could've been with tatum because he would've been traded to NO

yeah, it's interesting to look back now. he seemed very attainable pre-draft, but if boston was truly sold on him and knew we might take him, they probably wouldn't have traded down.

whatever; i don't blame the FO. i didn't think tatum would be this good, nor did most scouts, etc.

now, in retrospect, we probably should have at least worked him out to put fear into danny that trading below us was a risk. hopefully, we learned from that part at least.

this is true, but he might not have needed as much added along with him in such a scenario.

again, water under the bridge. we got AD and a ring. boston got their ring. everybody won.

you know, I frigging forgot that we drafted Lonzo ahead of him. So weird.

A couple of points to make. Our drafting used to be considered so great but to me, we have lost our mystique. We have messed up with our youngsters more than most and even the guys who have hit pretty well, an awful lot of guys we could have developed ended out developing better elsewhere. Our single greatest success to date is Reaves and who knows if he ends out staying here after Lebron retires.

We have become a team that goes after an existing superstar, sure we developed Kobe but we bought Shaq and most of the rest of the guys on that team. I find myself wondering if, within the modern CBA, is it even possible to build the kind of team we would like?? Seems like you can get 2 guys and then you have to get lucky guys on the cheap. Teams simply NEED to draft well, and find solid contributors or they won't go very far. You need 4 solid offensive players, maybe 5 and you need 3 nearly great lockdown defensive players.

Last point, Ox is gonna win the bet. Those black olives are looking further away.
