3x3 players need to compete in official FIBA 3x3 competitions in order to become ranked, and only ranked players are allowed to participate in the olympics. that's why the US team is comprised of jimmer fredette, one of rick barry's sons, and a few other no names pretty sure the qualifiers took place during the season/playoffs, so that'll rule out any active players from competing

Yeah. My understanding is FIBA specifically has done this to keep the US from dominating another hoops event. Mission accomplished I guess but the product could have been much better to watch.
