i respect the hell out of nash as a competitor. the guy has no quit in him and it's obvious that he would want to play until his body completely breaks down. it's a shame to see his career end this way after how hard he worked to come back unfortunately for us, his body broke down a year ago. too bad he didn't realize that and cost the lakers 10 million they could have spent in the offseason. now the best we can hope for is an injured player exception. his lakers tenure was simply doomed from the start because right when he got to LA, the injuries set in immediately. it'll be hard to remember he even played for the lakers in the future because of how little we actually got to see of him on the court. i wish it would have worked out for nash in LA but wow did that trade really come back to screw us over
The way it all went down is a bummer. No two ways about that. Sucks for us and it sucks for him. Nash is a warrior and I hate seeing him go out like this. But I also dislike how he and his fellow ex-Sun coach squeezed that extra game in for him to nullify the medical exception last season. All in all, however, this seems like a fitting end to a failed experiment. It didn't work out with Nash/Howard/D' Antoni. It's a new chapter for the Lakers right now and the timing is good for Nash to call it quits before the season starts. We should have an injury exception now and we are in great need of a healthy wing player. Now we have a spot open on the roster. Let's get one! Have I mentioned that I like Roscoe Smith?
The question is WHEN does the money become available? And can it be used to facilitate a trade? It would probably be best used that way instead of signing any of the free agents that are still out there...unless maybe Will Bynum gets waived.
I agree with everyone about respecting what he has done in his career as a whole but man...his tenure as a Laker was full of frustration for me. As this point I feel like Dj-Raz, I hate how he handled last year. He played that 10th game last season, screwed the salary cap, and then the video was released where he described how he did it for the money (guess I can't blame him for that one). I will most likely always have a little resentment against him whenever I hear/read about him solely based on this situation, not his career.
I personally have lost a lot of respect for Steve Nash since his Pheonix days. I used to fear and respect him so much, I know it was obvious he would decline and I was ok with that. Really it seemed, post divorce like he was a different guy, and I feel like that Video spoke volumes about him as a person, when he admitted to wanting the money. Maybe im supposed to admire his honesty, but you know, I respect the game too much to handle myself like he has if I were in his position, and I hold him to that standard. He could have easily done the respectable thing last year, but he didn't and we all know why.
Very glad to be closing this chapter. Sorry Nash, past accomplishments are great but you have to contribute to the organization's greatness to be considered a Laker, not take away from it. Nash & MDA not only didn't didn't add to our legacy, but they flat-out embarrassed us with the 2nd worst season ever and worst in 56 years. I just feel like Pheonix just utterly b-slapped us the last few years with those 2 infiltrating the organization. Granted, MDA came over from NY but he is always a Sun and so is Nash.
Yeah on the real I feel bad for Nash. It's unfortunate things ended up like this both for him and us as a team. At any rate he was arguably the best PG of the new millennium. Welcome to the hall of fame.
Price been playing alright but a rotation of Lin and Price for the entire year is not gonna pan out well......
I'm not convinced with Clarkson in the point unless we roll with Julius as the playmaker when Lin and Price are out
My first reaction was "Can we use the injury exception." A cloud has lifted from the collective heads and hearts of all Laker fans. You weren't coming back Steve Nash of the Suns era. The eye test was obvious and I recall as recently as a couple of days ago an article saying that the injuries were not as bad as last year. My respect would go up for Byron Scott infinitely if I found out that him and Kobe went Black ops on Steve Nash and used a tyre iron to beat Steve Nash into a state of prone invaldism and force him to quit on this year.
Nash might be the worst trade in Lakers maybe NBA history. We gave up 9M exception and 2 1st round pick for nothing. I don't remember any trade as bad as this one.
With this news, all I can think of is the voided CP3 trade. We'd have Paul, DHoward would've stayed, and I believe Phil would've signed on again. We'd be rolling. THANKS STERN!!!!
It's not all that surprising but man I do I feel for the guy. He worked hard over the summer only to be out for the season yet again after just one game. I wish we could have gotten him a ring, but the mass amount of injuries we suffered just threw that out the window.
