So I guess we "missed out" on Wes?

Speaking without any inside knowledge, I'm guessing they're at an impasse.

Lakers have absolutely no reason to make the Mavericks better for no reason.
Lin wants to get paid what he deserves which is probably that 4-5 million amount.
Dallas doesn't want to give us Justin Anderson.

I've heard there's been some discussion though between Dallas, Indy, and LA about a three-way trade involving Hibbert, Ellis, and a handful of Laker players. Maybe there's something in the works there still and they're just waiting until the 9th to get all the details ironed out.

I wonder if Jordan Hill is somehow involved too. He hasn't been signed by anyone yet.

It'd make some sense probably... Maybe he goes to Indiana as part of the deal?

Indiana is supposedly looking to be more of an uptempo team. Hill may fit in with that style. Especially after losing David West.

Wasn't there a mention of Kelly as part of the deal? He was wanted as a projected "stretch 4" in their plans.

    Please unload: Kelly and Young
    Please keep: Sacre
Doesn't affect us: Lin and Hill

I mean, if we could swing it I'd take Haywood's contract for their first round pick. Oops; they don't have one. And the only second rounder they have is heavily protected. Jog on.

It would essentially be used to dump Young and potentially other player(s) too create more salary cap space on the Lakers side; for Cleveland, Young is cheaper than JR Smith and provides a similar impact.

it seems the lakers have things in order, so I'm not sure what's to be gained by joining in these odd post-hoc FA trades. maybe if someone's dumping a useful sf or something?

I don't know. I don't see dallas giving up their pick, and I don't know how shedding young's salary does much for la at this point.

The main appeal of the haywood deal to me is it removes one of the Clippers few remaining options. Unless they can get a 3rd team involved to give us an asset, no thanks.

You gotta feel good for Gerald Wallace, the last 2-3 teams hes been on have absolutely been bottom feeders and now he can certainly help them on the defensive end and provide a good mentor for any young guys they have on the team.

Yeah I'm not sure what our motivation is to take the Hayward deal unless we plan to give another decent contract to somebody else. Do we really want to dump Nick that badly?

Players on expirings that might fill our SF if we create more salary cap space; i.e. Swaggy is traded.

Marvin Williams (SF or PF?) - Salary $7,000,000
    Chase Budinger - Salary $5,000,000
    Wilson Chandler - Salary $7,171,662
Trevor Booker (SF or PF?) - Salary 4,775,000

Am I missing anybody? Does Williams play SF? How about Booker?

Isn't Haywood's deal non-guaranteed? Can't we just cut him afterwards?

Williams can play sf. Booker is definitely a pf.

Marvin Williams can play SF but I wouldn't want him on our team. Trevor Booker is a nice player, but definitely more of a PF than a SF. In fact I've never seen Trevor Booker play at SF

Yup, that's why we would do that trade. Instant cap space. Can have another $10 million or so to sign free agents.

Cavs are probably going to really work the phones on that one though as it's a decently valuable piece for them to have.

Honestly I could see us doing a S&T with them where they get Hill & Nick Young for Haywood if they are unable to get Joe Johnson AND if something falls through with TT..

Let's see what we can pull off...
