Curious you shared % over $. He took a cut for sure but no one was going to pay a 40 year old Malone $19.2m even if all the teams had the space. A paycut was happening regardless, but yes he did take a bigger one to come to LA. As @KareemtheGreat33 pointed out, he wasn't taking a $48m haircut though. Even if you want to take the route of accounting for inflation, that still only gets you to $30.2m.

    Annually? No.

Again. You are talking about one of the cheapest, biggest penny pinching superstars to ever play the game. He's not taking less. Considered by most statistical categories to be the GOAT or in the conversion. Those don't take that kind of cut. A guy who's trying to lead a group to buy his own team. He's trying to accumulate MORE money, not piss it away. His own agent said IT'S NOT HAPPENING.

I don't see how this notion isn't 6 feet under.

Are we talking about players refusing millions of dollars or have we moved on to annual salaries?
Again ,Players/agents say a lot of things while negotiating doesn’t make them true.
And once again I don’t expect it to happen but wouldn’t be shocked.Your claim that no one has ever turned down $48million is obviously wrong

why are we discussing malone? he'd never won a ring, and i don't recall a direct quote from his agent to this effect one week prior to free agency:

this isn't some rumor monger claiming "inside sources"; it's a direct quote from the guy who negotiates lebron's deals.

i don't understand this back and forth.

    I laid out a scenario
I clearly said that I didn’t expect it to happen
People took offense for some reason??
    I don’t understand it either

Yeah it's not happening. Phoenix would still not be favourites. They have no one to defend. Too much risk involved for a slim ring opportunity. Makes no sense

It’s the low hanging fruit humor with only a few will understand the reference to older UFC lol. Like it’s not that funny but as a Filipino I still laughed..in a nutshell Pinoy humor.

Just got around to listening to this.

-Based on how we draft and how we tend to priorize triple threat players, he expects us to be targeting Holmes (Garcia is really really high on him), De Silva and Tyson at 17. Mentions Carter fits that but that he's going earlier.

-Buha notes that Holmes has the same agent as AR and Castleton.

-Garcia wouldn't be opposed to us trading up (Buha framed it as a question for that 8-12 range). He thinks that would cost us a future 1st and a player. Whether that would be for Carter (comps him to AC) or Holland (who might slip), who Garcia has #1 on his overall draft board.

-They have segments on each Bronny and Edey. Lots of positive stuff on both prospects. He has Bronny as a mid 1st grade (it's a wide net for that caliber this year).

-On other guys he likes in the 2nd round (35-45 is the range Buha asked about) :
    Bona
    Jalen Wells
    Isaiah Crawford

Man..giving up a future 1st and a player, in order to move up in a supposedly, "weak" draft? Jeesh

It would be really bad if we traded up to draft Bronny in the 1st round

i think wasserman has holland as #1, too. the more i've read on the draft, the more i think he's a guy to target. if he slips, we need to find a way to move up for him. to hear some of these guys tell it, he's an example of someone whose primary flaw (shooting) has swallowed everything, and people got bored with him after initial interest. seems like he could have jaylen brown type upside.

@abeer3 I've also seen a lot of Gerald Wallace comps for Holland, which I wouldn't be mad at.

ESPN dropped a new mock. Here's a few rumors and who they have us taking. Basically everyone is entertaining moving their pick.

    Latest on Devin Carter

i think carter's out for us.

somebody is going to slip, though. maybe not to 17, but possibly within striking distance of a trade up.

Their new mock today. Same suspects for us -- De Silva and Bronny.

    Topic 10
    Carter 11
    Holland 13
    Edey 14
    Ware 19
    Missi 21

I'm fine with De Silva IF we move Rui. Neither rebound and both have some defensive limitations. Kuz Lite is often the comp, but I don't want negative overlap with our SF/PFs.

I'm as high on Ware or Missi as Edey because the first two aren't as NBA ready. Bigs in general usually take a couple years, so if there's already a "green" label on them, I don't want to invest that time. Edey has limitations but can play tomorrow. Garcia used starting out comp to that of Zu or long term projection as Rik Smits. Edey is an elite screener and with JJ that could give our shooters some good looks.

Another late first guy interests me if we move our other forward. If we move Vando, I like Ryan Dunn and his defense. But he's awful on offense. Can't have both of those on the roster.
