I'm indifferent on the hire - and to be honest the other candidates were highly uninspiring. What I would love to see is VOGEL return as an assistant under JJ....that would be pretty sick.
Finally. Big risk but I like it. I like his podcast, for me it was the best out there. He's really a maniac about the sport. He was coaching his kid team, had a podcast with 3 different segments, podcast with LeBron and broadcasting for ESPN. He has a crazy work ethic and deep knowledge of the game. He's also very smart and knows how to navigate politics, he even got a gig in First Take while being against that type of show. I couldn't do it but it shows how he's able to navigate that. Can be important for the locker room shenanigans. He's also a j****** and has a big ego, curious to see how he manages the players and his staff. Huge opportunity for him and I'm 100% sure he will do his very best. If it will be enough, we'll see. Nobody can praise or criticize much this hiring. Nobody knows what will turn out. I'm happy with going outside the box in a time where there aren't many good options. Excited to see how this plays out Let's go!!!
@PurpleAndGold88 Oh stop. You can’t back all that stuff up. Could fail because of injuries but possible HIGH ceiling here.
Crazy work ethic and deep knowledge of the game are great starters. As much as some coaches like to act all humble you need a big ego. You dont have to be a jacka.. but sometimes the two get confused. Even at youth league and high school levels you are attacked constantly. You have to think your right and know better than everyone else or you would second guess yourself. Got to be many times worse at the NBA level. Very optimistic.
What's the contract numbers? All I've seen is a 4 year deal, no dollar amount attached. I've never been a "coaching" over players type myself, but good luck to him, this job isn't for the faint of heart.
Experienced assistants are great if they are good and have the right experience. I will take Rondo over experience.
Both Rondo and Dudley are redundant. I'll go with the former and add a vet coach or a proven assistant. Too bad JVG got nabbed by Balmer.
Interesting that Jeanie was the one, that was hot for Hurley, and was "disappointed" that he turned us down. The pressure is on right out of the gate. I don't get the feeling, that rebuilding is the game plan here at all.
Unfortunately I just don’t get the feeling Jeanie understands what it takes to run a modern organization.
Being impatient and cheap, isn't the ideal way, to go about things. On the flipside, we won't be looking for a new coach, for at least another 2 seasons. The players now..have to man up, crying about the HC ,isn't going to fly for a minute . That's a good thing IMO.
