Coaches with X years left on contracts who get fired still get all that money even if they are hired elsewhere … right? Someone had different opinion couple months back but I didn’t see it refuted by anyone at the time at least.

How do you know that he's better than JJ ? You don't need to be an assistant coach for a few years anymore
They all started somewhere just social media was different ..
P.S.Mazzula who was treating like s*** even last year just became a winning coach

    Stein with the great insight
I think so. It may depend on the contract clauses the coach and the previous team agreed

With Monty being fired, I retract my proposal to bet my life savings on JJ being the coach :D

I still think it’s JJ, but if this drags on more than another day or two my guess is they’re spinning the tires on Monty.

But if that’s the case, they better be damn sure that Monty would actually want the job. Would be extra embarrassing if they pivoted to going all in on Monty only for him to decide he doesn’t want to coach yet and then have to crawl back to JJ again. That would make it appear like they don’t actually have any confidence in JJ

I know I’m probably in the minority here but I’d actually find it easier to get excited about JJ as our coach than Monty.

Borrego was fired from Charlotte ..
Borrego was 138-163 in four seasons with the Hornets and had received a multi-year contract extension in August,2021, but he is supposed to be better than Reddik based on what ?

monty was basically forced to take the job because of the insane amount of $$$ they offered. he didn't want to coach the pistons, but no one's turning down that money

he can retire into the sunset now

Charlotte is a dumpster fire, so it’s hard to judge his tenure there based solely on record.

But I think it’s the 15+ years of experience as an assistant coach, with 10 of those years under Gregg Popovich (including 2 championships) gives him a much more qualified resume than JJ

To be clear I want JJ at this point, but I can definitely see why Borrego is coveted around the league right now given the current market

i wanted monty when we hired vogel (over both vogel and lue). the time that has passed since then suggests i was wrong. when phx fired monty, i was on monty's side. but for detroit to lose that kind of money...something smells there...

Paid $85m to not do a job. That's incredible. We haven't seen such a payout since CBS told Charlie Sheen to go away.

btw, williams' first wife died in a car accident, and now his second was diagnosed with cancer last year, i think. it's possible his mind is elsewhere, which is understandable.
