Why do I have the feeling we won’t hear a JJ announcement until Thursday or Friday? They won’t want to announce it today because then it’s too obvious that this process dragged on so much only because the powers that be wouldn’t let JJ sign until after the Finals So they’ll wait until later in the week so they could try to act like they were doing such an exhaustive search that they legitimately needed this much time and it had nothing to do with JJ’s contract situation with ESPN

Mentions Dudley and Scott Brooks as the other types the Lakers would like to bring in, isn’t sure on Rondo, or if Cassell would come here when he’s lined up to be #2 in Boston now.
In the pod, he also lists Miles Simon and Stotts as assistants he thinks we'll inquire about either do to past employment or past interest.
Is Irwin early or wrong? Is Shams out of the loop? Either way, latest from Shams Shams thinks it's JJ but it'll take a few days.
Seems pretty obvious that JJ is inevitable, I think Irwin knows that and is trying to call it early in an attempt to boost his credibility Which honestly is what annoys me about Irwin when he tries to play “insider”. In his video he starts off citing JJ not being on First Take as evidence that something is brewing, and then says he called around his sources (and we already know his sources really aren’t THAT in the loop) who have lead him to believe JJ will be the next coach. He’s still pretty vague and didn’t really offer any actual detail. Says he’s not sure if JJ is in LA. Doesn’t have any info about contract structure. Still refers to things in future tense like “will be” the coach instead of “has agreed to terms”. He’s spoken equally definitively in the past and then had to backtrack. Just a week ago he was confidently saying that things with JJ have cooled and he thinks Borrego or Cassell will be the next coach. Then he has the nerve to act like HE is the newsbreaker here and how even if it takes a few days before Woj/Shams announce it, they should (but won’t) credit him. He tries to present it as Woj/Shams having to “play the media game”, but meanwhile Irwin himself is independent so that’s why he has the power to break this news now which is the payoff for all his loyal fans who have seen him evolve into an insider… I would bet my life savings that Irwin is “right” and JJ will be announced as our next coach likely by the end of the week. I just don’t think Irwin has more credible information than Woj/Shams. He’s just reading the same tea leaves as everyone else. Maybe he has access to an extra tea leaf or two, but he acts way too self-important about it
I wouldn't mind Scott Brooks as an assistant. Brooks is good with player development, which we'll be in need of if Handy is gone. Stotts would be nice but after the debacle with Adrian Griffin in Bucks' training camp I doubt he's eager to be an assistant to a first time head coach again so soon.
I might tend to agree on most accounts, but don’t feel strong enough to even bet my lunch money (Much less than life savings) We’re a little too unpredictable on this front to be tossing any meaningful wagers around IMHO.

Conspiracy theory: If it’s not announced by this Thursday that JJ Redick is officially the new coach, it won’t be him. The theory would be if the Lakers front office hasn’t provided an offer by then, they aren’t that gung ho about Redick and are trying to find someone else they are more comfortable with. I think they should give Adrian Brody serious consideration because:

Why are we only looking at JJ when it comes to former players with zero experience. How about Grant Hill. He’s managing director of the USA Olympic team. He’s intelligent, well spoken etc. I’m sure there are others. Are we only looking at LeBron pod partners?
Wow this is a gift for the Lakers that fell in their lap. Monty is a far better candidate than anyone else out there and we should go all in on this. He previously coached AD as well so there’s that positive connection. I agree with this. I am personally against hiring Redick because there’s a significant learning curve, and is especially harder for someone with zero coaching experience and is conditioned for the day to day grind that comes with the job. Sure JJ is a smart guy regarding basketball IQ but so were a bunch of other former players with no previous coaching experience who had a lot of difficulty during their first few years coaching (Nash, Kidd, Billups). The Lakers job will not have patience for Redick to go through his bumps and bruises as he learns his job.
