I know this will be in the severe minority here (probably the only one) but having worked and still working with kids like this the worst thing in the world for the human being behind the "wingspan", "Blocks" and "beast" play is $$ and isolation. I hope he's turned it around but addiction is rarely broken that easy. To top it off he's had phantom heart issues as well (common for certain types of drug use btw).

I hope for his sake of course he doesn't suffer some bad injury. I mean that is just NUTS to do that. How bad did he want out from the Pacers or pissed off at them was he? I don't see a ring being worth 12 million bucks. Hell Ron Ron gave his away. Yeah yeah I know he's still a champion. So is Dwight.

supposedly bill walton has taken him under his wing as have others

he has surrounded himself with a good support system

losing out on millions would do that to a guy, im pretty sure he is more humble now and more willing to appreciate his talent and the opportunity that was just handed to him

from our point of view its a no brainer, we have everything to gain and basically nothing to lose

if he pans out we look like geniuses if he doesnt nobody will even remember it

No kidding we need to lock this guy up if he shows well in Summer League. All kinds of provisions in the contract for the character stuff if he screws up. Do the rules allow that even as far as withholding his money if he starts tripping again??????

No one but his family and other than know and care for him. More than just a game sometimes.

My family has and does work with a lot of inner city kids in trouble with drugs and mental illness. This is a button for me so please understand. Access to money is a really bad thing to do with addicts. I'm sure there are leeches of all sorts hanging on him to get him to a contract. Ive seen the pieces after similar blowouts. It's a long shot at best. I truly hope for the best with him and sometimes the best isn't making IT.

I'd say lock him up for 2-3 years on a minimum contract if he shows promise in practice. I don't see why we'd want to showcase his talents on a national stage, only to risk another team sneaking up on him.

Regarding his contract, is it possible to lay out some terms/conditions in there? Something like requiring him to live in a dormitory setting with weekly visits to a counselor?

yea, i know, i meant it in a basketball sense where no one will remember the move didnt pan out since it didnt really affect the team

but i understand where you're coming from. a big reason why were all cheering for him is because playing the game might make him overcome his demons, and like i said he has surrounded himself with bill walton and other positive people that have helped him turn it around and we can just hope that if he achieves any kind of success, those "leeches" wont come back and mess it all up for him

I don't think so. The Player's Association wouldn't be a huge fan of teams forcing their guys into rehab clinics.

I think we could build a clause into it of course that says if tests positive for drugs his contract is null and void. That hasn't worked so far for him though.

Yeah I read somewhere tonight that Roy could choose not to take the trade kicker if he was so inclined. You know like showing how happy he is to be here. :D I think it's 2.5 million?

Question - there was some talk of moving Swaggy P, but I haven't heard anything further. I don't mind keeping him necessarily like some others seem to, but on a practical level, what other backup SF would be getting? We're obviously not getting a guy like Harris. So who is left that you guys want? Caron Butler? I'd rather stick with Swaggy P than Butler.

What else would we need? We have a solid C and PF rotation with Hibbert/Black/Upshaw (possibly) and Randle/Bass/Nance and possibly Sacre if he isn't moved because of the cap. Our guard rotation seems good with Russell, Clarkson, Lou and Brown. And at this moment at SF we have Kobe/Swaggy/Brown.

I'd rather stick with him too. I just hope he and Byron Scott can get on the same page.

For SF, I believe Dorell Wright is still available, though with Portland so badly crippled now, you'd expect them to re-sign him.

I'm not sure we need anything, but it does seem like it wouldn't hurt to add a wing. I think Nance is going to see time at SF, and both Browns can play there in spells. I think Nance is going to surprise us and be thrust into a fairly heavy rotation. All that said, there are names out there...

Gerald Green is still out there.
    James Jones?

Right now my projected depth chart:

    D'Angelo Russell/Lou Williams
    Jordan Clarkson/Jabari Brown
    Kobe Bryant/Nick Young/Anthony Brown
    Julius Randle/Brandon Bass/Larry Nance Jr.
    Roy Hibbert/Tarik Black

-I think we trade Kelly and Sacre to Indiana for Hibbert.
-The key with Nick Young I believe is where the cap is set. From what I've read we're ready to move on from him, but it depends right now on whether the cap goes from 67 to 69 million. If it goes up, we don't need to trade him. If it stays at 67 then he's gone.
-I'd like to find a way to bring Wayne back. I like Jabari a lot, but I'd rather not depend on him. If Ellington is game, I'd bring him back somehow.
-If we must trade Nick, I'm down with Caron Butler, Dorrell Wright, or even Xavier Henry would be nice.

I don't disagree, but the SF free agent pool isn't exactly deep right now and I like Xavier. He's a good dude.
