did it by spending and bringing in good basketball ops guys to run the show. Ironically, Cuban’s biggest mistakes (letting nash walk, not drafting Giannis) were when he deviated from that model (Nellie wanted to keep Nash; Donnie wanted to draft giannis).
probably doesn't happen because if giannis is there, they don't finish low enough to have a shot at luka. giannis was already a star at that point. and honestly, the mavs recovered very well from losing nash, too. that doesn't mean both weren't really bad mistakes at the time, though. i actually thought the porzingis trade was a mistake for boston, because it created a situation where they had three centers and lost a lot of their perimeter defense. had holiday not fallen in their laps, i think they have a pretty meh season and don't get a ring this year. he did, and they're winning it all, but smart for porzingis was a mistake in and of itself, imo.
