We are not hiring Phil Handy as the HC, nobody else is either. We'd get clowned on all fronts, if we made that move. We are going to pull another rabbit, out of the hat soon. Hopefully this guy actually wants the job.

Right. I can talk myself into Phil for the reasons you named. Particularly if we are really just picking through assistants.

Romper room caliber call hiring Phil. I think we've had enough egg on our face, at this point.

The Vangundy brothers, could be an off the wall play. I really have no idea. Mark Jackson? And Stan and Jeff? That would be entertaining at least.

Oh I don't think it will happen.

I do think we could do worse the way things are playing out.

Mark Jackson has been completely blackballed. He is not going to get another coaching job.

I think the Van Gundy bros are just over it. Plus Stan is going through a lot right now. Can't see him wanting to add the stress of being our coach.

Ham taking that Bucks lead job, opens an eyebrow, Doc was just pushing hard for Cassell. Maybe the Bucks FO, is already eying Doc's replacement, of their own chosing?

Back on topic..it would be crazy if we let this play out, until after the Finals ended. At least we're stealing some of the puke boys shine.

What did Jackson do again? I lose track of these things.

Or Cassell sees Boston as a better gig. Because it is. He's moving over to lead assistant regardless whether he stays or goes and Boston is about to be NBA champs again. I don't think they have a huge window remaining, but they're in a better position than the Bucks. No team with Doc in charge is going anywhere and they don't have enough defense anymore.

i think the only plus to moving to milwaukee is you know doc's getting fired, so you might be a head coach. that said, i'm not sold that mazulla is a genius, and he seems like a weird guy who could find himself on the outs if they can't follow up this ring with another one (and i don't think they will).

Ham is going to be the Bucks next HC IMO. I give Doc 1 more season.

The friggin C Bags, are showing that with enough talent, you can pretty much, just spin the bottle, and pick a coach.

Possibly. But we haven't really countered anything this summer. I don't think we'll hear any rebuttal until Rob is sitting on front of the media when they have the new HC's presser. 1) he'll need that long to craft the pivot story. 2) the biblical stories he likes to weave into his pressers play better when he's saying them vs Woj reading them from a text message (kidding...a little).

Woj's LA spin could've been olive branching. I need to see who announces the hire. That'll tell me all I need to know. Until then... we wait and speculate.

I guess but if you're going to be one seat away from the big chair that's risky going to a new, worse team. Safer to ride the train until your stop vs getting on a train with a conductor you know is incompetent and a crash is imminent. You could get his job but you could also get thrown out with the bath water.

And yes, I could see Mazulla leaving because current coaching demands prevent him from watching The Town as often as he'd like.

My brother clipped me for a C-note on that lucky a** Sampson shot.

Ralph Sampson the 1st and only 7-4 PG ever. Lol

Crazy enough, but it seems like it was a combination of things and not just one factor. People get real vague when discussing it so you get a lot of different stories about Jackson. He alienated most of the front office and there are flat out weird accounts of him forcing his religious views on players. Clearly he made some very real enemies out there as he hasn’t even popped up on someone’s staff

    Here lol

    • Staged a coup of John Stockton while he was on the Jazz, causing Stockton to retire.
    • Cheated on his wife with a stripper, then getting blackmailed by the prostitute + some other guy, while at the same time being a born-again pastor
    • Bristled at Mike Malone being the assistant coach under him (ownership wanted him to be the Associate Head Coach, like Gentry was with Kerr, but when Jackson found out he said NO WAY
    • Didn't let assistant coaches do interviews with press because he thought they were gunning for his job
    • Pushed Malone out because Jackson thought Malone was gunning for his job
    • Ran ISO-ball all the time
    • Instilled a "us vs them" where the "them" was the entire front office. He would tell the players that the front office didn't want them to win so that Mark Jackson would look bad. C'mon that's lunacy
    • Barred Jerry West and Jim Barnett (the beloved TV color guy) along with everyone else from practices so they couldn't hear the crazy s*** he said to the team
    • Told the team Ezeli was rooting for them to lose so that Ezeli would look better (he was injured). This culminated in Ezeli in tears saying that there was no way he would do this, when confronted by the team
    • Told the team that Harrison Barnes was possessed by a demon, which is why he regressed
    • Darren Erman, the assistant responsible for the defense after Mike Malone left, was recording Mark Jackson surreptitiously to try and capture the crazy s*** like the Harrison Barnes demon thing and the Ezeli thing, but was caught and fired
    • Noted homophobe, including the "I'll pray for him" when discussing Jason Collins coming out. This doesn't fly in the bay area when a lot of the team staff is gay and so is the front office, including the COO/President Rick Welts
    • Didn't want to hire actual good assistants, instead, he hired yes-men like Pete Myers and Lindsay Hunter, who backstabbed Alvin Gentry in Phoenix to get the head job
    • All the coaching staff were allying themselves with star players instead of the players who actually needed their help/development, so a lot players like Barnes didn't get the development time and help they needed
    • He put players against each other, telling a star player "hey that bench thinks he's better than you" and then telling the bench guy "hey that star guy thinks you're s***, go take his job"
    • Didn't get along with anyone in the front office, including Jerry West, Bob Myers, and actually the rest of the employees (marketing, PR, etc)
    • No preparation. He said in the Clippers series that he didn't need to prepare extra hours, when Doc Rivers was up all night devising schemes

Cause he's going to sign the contract during a live episode the following week, right?

I think Adelman would be a pretty nice hire given what we've gone through lol. He at least coached in the NBA than a JJ Reddick and he has "upside", dad was a great coach in the NBA. Maybe we will finally beat the Nuggets with his insight like how Don Nelson beat the #1 Mavs with Dirk after knowing their scheme!

As others said, simply being a good coach doesn't equate to success as there's other factors. The FO isn't inspiring confidence recently that we will be upgrading this team. Sadly, it's all a bit of a crapshoot in this current era and there's no guarantees like Phil Jackson when we hired him for the first 3 peat.

We need this hire to be like what Brad Stevens did for the C Bags and bring more stability to this franchise.

To expand on the Borrego-AD relationship being overstated, according to Buha the overlap was only a couple of months. Maybe he prefers him to JJ before talking to either because Borrego didn't leave him off a list and that's a talking point especially without diving into all the material and glowing remarks JJ's had about AD on all his pods. But Borrego isn't an "AD hire" if the two spent a maximum of 60 days together a decade ago. I'm not even sure AD would be able to pick him out of a lineup.

Yes seriously the AD >> Borrego relationship is way overstated, like they stay in close contact over the past 10 years. No one is saying that are they?

If it was then AD would've asked for them to get him on as an assistant with one of the several staffs that have cycled through during AD's time here so far.

If it was then a bigger deal would be made of them being in the same building together when we play the Pelicans. The national media LOVES those segments. We'd get a 5 minutes bit on that including a sideline report from Haynes if they were so close and ripped apart when the Lakers traded for AD.
