How awkward will it be for the next coach if Hurley declines? Everyone knowing you’re not the one they wanted you’re the one they settled for
feel like this is what people wanted: go hard after someone you've researched. you can't make someone say yes. and no, if he declines, this wasn't some elaborate ploy to make redick or borrego more palatable. just before that nonsense starts. i do agree that now that the huge contract offer has been made...i don't know what you do in terms of compensation on something like a redick hire. or even a borrego or stotts type hire.
getting 10's of millions is a decent consolation prize I'm sure, but to know you weren't the first choice, 2nd choice, etc, may actually give us an edge if the new coach has something to prove.
Makes you feel better about the leadership/direction: despite the issues of the college coach to NBA, this seemed like a guy you would throw open the brinks truck for.
Yeah not what I expected to see when I woke up and saw a tweet from Woj including the words “Lakers head coach” LOL
Not sure how in the know anyone even is at this point. But unless we already have an agreement with Hurley, if we don’t offer up to whatever Jeanie’s ceiling was, they need to call him up and raise the offer a bit(if he’s actually still undecided)
To me this sounds like a guy getting his ducks in a row to make an announcement of leaving. Its easy to say you’re staying
Police on campus feels pretty dramatic to me. Lol. Its summer so how many kids are on campus even if he did leave.
I'm at the point of wondering if there was even a noon practice scheduled. The media, outside of Woj and Fanta, has been particularly useless on this one.
considering some rando registered for this forum to troll regarding the coach, i'd guess there might be some unstable folks over in connecticut? i don't know. upping the offer because you're nervous is a bad sign to me if i'm the one being courted--like: why were you holding out? unless i explicitly asked for a higher dollar amount and there was some reason to believe that a circumstance changed as a result. you make your best offer first, imo.
Yeah I have to think that Jeanie and co are aware of the “cheap” allegations, so I’m skeptical that they low balled. If we didn’t offer $100M, I think that might just mean we went lower years and higher salary. Like maybe Hurley preferred $80M over 5 years rather than $100M over 8 years
