Yep. And maybe I'm reading way too much into this thing, but Dub-J not seeing AD's D suggests he's too offensive-minded? When, if you ever ask me - you won't/haven't but whatever - I want a defensive-minded coach. Gimme a Top 5 Defense team any damned day.

You will never see a Championship Team that isn’t very good on D. Dallas has really surprised me because they are an u see the radar very good one. The C-Bags obviously are elite there with Tatum, Brown, and Holiday.
I still can’t believe how Minny absolutely shut down everything Denver tried to do. Unfortunately for them, they had no answer for Luka and Kyrie. Matchups matter so much in the playoffs.
Anyway, I too see that huge red flag regarding JJ. Maybe after seeing AD’s dominance up close, he will quickly change his mind. I sure hope we have a defensive specialist added to his staff.

Lol..said by 100's of NBA coaches over the years. It's a rather common point, NBA HC bring up. Even the the former HC turned TV analyst, say this a lot.

It means, the game is being called tight, move your feet, get to your position, but don't reach.

You will probably hear that same comment being made in the Finals.

JJ Redik is a small favorite among candidates for the post of head coach

« I still think that Jay Reddick is a small favorite among candidates, although, again, this can always change during interviews.

But seriously I have an insider who can't be named,he is very respected in NBA and by Lakers fans,he told my friend that Reddick already is coach.Just media should keep people guessing and entertain during the finals

For what? I don't really understand the point of being coy about it. We are going to hire a coach..get it over with already.

i don't get the riley comparisons

riley had a couple seasons worth of AC experience prior to taking over for westhead. redick has no coaching experience aside from coaching youth basketball

That IS the only major difference … though. JJ hasn’t done the short term assistant part. All the more and “most” important other obvious similarities are intact. The situation with the FO listening to its reputedly bright basketball minded star player’s endorsement too which is most important, because JJ has a coach on the floor who’s perfectly in sync with the plan. Just like Riley had to start with. I’ve pointed this out multiple times.

    Let’s see…

    • hes white (No racial)
    • Considered good looking
    • Dresses GQ (allegedly)
    • Well spoken
    • Played in the league
    • Did broadcasting
I believe those are the reasons he’s compared to Riley.

Regarding JJ and AD D topic, he's an analytical guy and I remember that at some point in the season, our defense was worse with AD than without AD.

Obviously in the eye test you see how good AD is in the defensive end, but maybe it was what made him to not consider AD in the top 5. JJ has still put him in the best D guys in the NBA, that take is overblown

You see NO similarity to Doc Buss's two HOF players, one past (acknowledged bright basketball mind) and one present (that he went all in for in firing Westhead who had won a ring with them the year prior) in recommending Riley with HIS very little experience (granted, under the gun decision with season underway) .... with acknowledged bright basketball minded HOF LeBron wanting Redick because he sees eye to eye with him on strategy Xs and Os (after the firing of Ham with whom they went to the WCF the prior in his rookie season? At least Bron put up with Ham for the entire 2nd season though clearly no longer a fan.

OK. I think the similarity in situation with strong push from star player wanting a say in how they’re going to play the game going forward is really important. And am not talking about “LeBron Ball” which is an outdated take anyway courtesy of Father Time. Count me in the small group here interested in what the results would be IF player coaches were allowed. This isn’t the next best thing …. it’s a better thing IMO.

I agree with someone who said a few pages back that if someone from this organization mentions Riley similarities as a reason to hire JJ, that person should be fired on the spot.

    it's cringe-inducing

Zen. Pull any of my sentences where I've tried to explain my best thinking on the LeBron as virtual player coach paired with rookie coach HE sees great promise in and wants to scheme with (seems obvious to me YMMV). And intelligently explain why I in particular am "rehashing old crap". I think this is how they are thinking.

Just a lame ploy to build up the narrative that JJ is going to come in here and lead us to a Chip within his first two seasons.
    If he does, then great.
There’s a higher probability that it will take him a number of years to turn into a good coach.
He may have a smart “basketball mind,” but we have no idea if he can relate well to the players, motivate them, or if they will continue to listen to him through multiple rough patches in the season.
This is the biggest difference: back then, it was the savvy Dr.
Buss making the calls. That dude had vision in spades.
We have Kurt, Linda and Jeanie.

So IF they act as I've been suggesting Dr Buss were he here today very well might make the decision for Redick, given his star player's input and involvement in tandem during the season and as a coach on the floor helping it happen ..... it's not Jeanie and Rob / whoever doing their best imitation of Jerry taking the big swing ..... but them being stupid and if it happens to succeed, it was pure luck and a dumb decision anyway. Got it.
