Yeah. Not interested in some kind of immediate rift between the new coach and AD. His statements also makes me wonder how he would utilize him.
The whole scheming for AD thing is funny because we used him very effectively against Denver, he just got gassed by the 4th from doing all the carrying. The main thing AD wants is more help and beef with a big man to partner him and get him some rest. Rob needs to do his job and nail some great FA's. Not sure what to expect out of these coaching candidates given that we've gone the assistant route (Walton, Ham) and it didn't work out. Ultimately, we ae all speculating along with JJ about what type of philosophy they'd bring. I hope we can have a repeat of the 2019 offseason, there's less drama now compared to when Magic backstabbed Rob and the whole team.
He doesn't score enough, or doesn't have huge scoring games often enough, which seems to be the only metric that matters when evaluating players nowadays. Just imagine a reverse version of AD - as good on O as he's on D and as good on D as he's on O. That player is in the MVP discussion every year. Is offense really that much more important than defense?
i mean, gobert is paid almost as much as AD and is a near total liability on offense (can't pass, shoot outside of 2ft, or make fts), so obviously somebody values defense. the funny AD hypothetical is: what if rudy gobert averaged 25ppg and demanded a double team any time he got a touch within 15ft of the hoop? oh, and could also switch onto guards on defense? you'd say that's an mvp-level player, right?
AD is surrounded by s***ty defenders on our team so it makes his defense look worse to the naked eye when in reality the team would be the worst team in the league defensively without AD. A center in freeagency, Vando returning, and breaking up the Reaves/Dlo backcourt will have our defense top 5 again next year.
Yeah, but will Rob ever spend on size in free agency? He loves guards. I'm with LT though, draft Edey, sign Drummond, I could live with that, and I'd probably stop pining for Myles Turner. (maybe).
Again..how do you hold guys accountable? Cutting their playing time? It depends on who you are talking about. It sounds simple, but it's not all that simple, to put into practice.
yeah, i think everyone but lebron has been held accountable. and nobody's holding lebron accountable. is what it is. work around it.
It's the Lebron dilemma, the only way it's going to change, is if he fell off dramatically on the court. That hasn't happened yet.
I’m not as anti-Irwin as I used to be… but man I wish I could be paid by a Lakers blog to rehash information already discussed by Shams, Woj, Stein, Amick, Buha, etc under the guise of “anonymous sources”
I'm really curious who the assistants are... Reddick really likes Stan Van Gundy. He was doing a podcast with Matt Barnes and they both said very glowing things about him. Cranjis (if you guys like him, and I do to an extent) says Stan would be a decent to good hire there. Fill out the rest of the staff and get to improving the roster. The one thing I do object to is how the information is being leaked and how it's coming out: as if, we're just going through the interviews for the sake of saying we did them; IMO, at least give the perception you're giving other candidates a chance and at least give the "appearance" you're doing some due diligence, lol. I'm just waiting for the announcment. ROFL.
I’ve grown to really respect SVG, not quite enough to be a HC at this point of his career, but him as JJ’s lead assistant would go a long ways towards calming my concerns about JJ in the HC role
