Yeah. I’m hoping the interview process goes well and we end up with a good one.

I don’t know why anyone thinks JJ would be a good hire.

There has been plenty of past examples of former players with no coaching experience jumping into a head coaching position… they all did not do well. There is a real learning curve to the job.

Within the past 15 years, here are some t ex players who jumped into coaching with no experience during their first stints..: Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Derek Fisher, Luke Walton, Chauncey Billups…. They all underachieved. Kidd and Nash in particular had championship aspirations when they were coaching in Brooklyn and flamed out badly.

Steve Kerr is the lone exception. Ime Udoka had success but he also worked several years as an assistant coach.

The track record of players going straight into coaching with no prior experience is not good.

What has JJ demonstrated that would make him the exception to this? I really can’t think of anything

I could swear I heard on a podcast maybe yesterday or the day before that JJ turned down the Charlotte job, so that’s one team that wanted him. I still agree with you though, I don’t want him, we should be going after guys like Adelman that have proven success running schemes on a championship team.

Actually Luke was a Warriors assistant and coached some games when Kerr was out to rehab his back, so he had head coaching experience and it STILL went terrible. So yeah I agree with your point, it’s a hard thing to just jump into, and it’s doubly hard to jump in as coach of the Lakers, the expectations are higher than anywhere else. Ham couldn’t handle it, whined about fans living and dying with every game, never took any blame on himself.

I wouldn’t say he’d be a good hire exactly, but I’m intrigued enough to see where it goes.

I can see the appeal if the FO doesn’t think any of the available HC choices blow them away, and they really meant it that the Lakers want to find a coach that can grow with the team and provide consistency. We probably want to find a young cornerstone piece like Spolstra or Pop, so JJ might have a longer rope than Ham, and stick if he doesn’t screw it up too bad. I don’t see who else the FO can rely on for BBall IQ acumen other than LeBron, so his endorsement probably would put JJ as the top in their eyes. I can see JJ checking a few boxes of what the front office wants in theory.

At the moment I’d be pretty ok with JJ because I feel we’re at a transitional period anyway unless we get Murray or Mitchel and can keep/add depth this summer. Then we might have one more run with LeBron, but I’m not betting on it. LeBron was fantastic this season, but you could see the fatigue.

And one of my favorite flicks: “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” Fun fact: my Brother, who’s a big shot Art Director now, worked on that movie as a concept artist.

Yes. Any one, any one named here would be better than Ham. Cassell, Quinn, Borrego etc etc will be guaranteed better, that’s why I’m not that invested in this search

Yes, in his old age, he mixes up different headlines, and confuses people.

we just smile and nod mostly because he’s a pretty harmless soul to have around

it doesn’t explain him dressing up in women’s lingerie and selling coconuts on the street, but to each their own
