I'm with you, with due diligence and the "possibility" of very high reward if successful, listening to one of the smartest minds in the game, outside of player selection (Russ says hello  ... this is NOT that kind of a decision) .... I'm a gambler by nature and going for the possible highest reward .... the NEXT outside the box great coaching hire, as I challenge anyone here who bit***s about no longer having Doc Buss making decisions like this .... to explain why HE would not do the JJ hire in THIS situation we now find ourselves in regardless of all the reasons ..... against what LeBron is telling him after 10-20 hours now one on one with the Guy. Explain why Jerry would NOT do that in THIS situation.

Conversely to ignore what he wants THIS time AGAIN after doing it on Lue following Luke's firing .... is to risk with far better odds of once James has taken measure of this "conservative" "more how it should be done" approach other person hired again against his wishes on his last contract here ..... and finds likely he's NOT all that, then it really turns to s*** again, like with HAM, even if he's much better than Ham. Let LeBron be player coach for his last hurrah with the Lakers and let's see what the MAN can do would be MY "opinion" as well as others here and on LG. Not possible? OK .... then hire JJ. Jerry would. In THIS situation. In MY opinion.

I’m actually fine with hiring a first time coach, as long as he’s been an assistant coach for at least a couple of seasons.
I find it incredibly insane that the Lakers are willing to gamble on a guy who’s never even been a G-League coach for one season. Having a great basketball mind is one thing. Being a leader of men, and getting them all to play under your vision is something completely different.
Oh well, Jeanie should always listen to what LeBron thinks is right because it worked out so well with Westbrick.

Shrug..worked out great when LeBron wanted AD. You win some, you lose some. That's life.

    Great bench staff!!!

    “Pat Riley”

Explain why in this situation, 40 years later (so what) that with the mind for winning we all fall at the alter for with Jerry Buss … and the OG absolute go big or go home shrewd minded Gambler Jerry was …. that in THIS situation with LBJ who with >>> JJ’s mind could realistically be an incredibly “amazing” combo for how we play the game going forward …. that Jerry Buss would hire one of the other guys?

What if at the last 3 years of Kobe’s career it was Kobe and JJ with a great staff. Instead of Byron Scott (hypothetically time wise) following him and his staff?

Explain why Jerry wouldn’t hire one of the other guys.
I’ve told you why I think it’s crazy already.
I’ve also explained numerous times that we do not have anyone currently in our FO who has the discernment that Dr. Buss had.
Jeanie obviously doesn’t- she just hires her friends, instead of people who can actually can do the job, and do it well.
Track record matters. If I saw something in Jeanie that reminded me of her Father, one move she’s made in the past that showed me she was anything like her Father, then I would trust her. She hasn’t, and so I don’t. The Rambii definitely don’t instill confidence. As for Rob, he’s shown improvement in the team building category, but I honestly don’t know how much weight he holds in picking the coach. If his voice is the strongest when it comes to this, then I definitely don’t have much hope based on the most recent hires.

I have! Like in 5 or more posts above in this thread. Debunk the points and don’t deflect to what Jeanie is or isn’t. I put the work in with a lot of sentences (apologies for all the run on ones) and “Points”. You could easily find a whole bunch of different ones to quote and tell me FIRST why Jerry if he were here would NOT do them. Based on what HE did and his approach as an owner. You can’t just turn it around with no effort.

No one also can change my opinion that LeBron and JJ or hypothically Kobe and JJ mind melding our style of play with the roster we wind up with would NOT be better than ANY of these other candidates. I don’t buy it. It doesn’t make sense.

    No effort?
I’ve stated my case based on actual facts, not theories of “what would Dr. Buss do?”
Jeanie is running things and the Great Dr. Buss ain’t here.
I’ve also stated the fact that it’s not a normal thing to just gamble on a dude who’s never even coached, at any level.
I don’t care if you agree, but calling my take “lazy” is the easy way out. That’s your opinion, but whenever someone resorts to name calling in a debate, they’ve already lost credibility.

I’m not name calling but everyone harps on all this experience angle. Who in the world has more at the highest levels of the game on the floor in real time with a photographic memory for 20 years … experience than LeBron. He has that kind of knowledge. You combine that with what it appears that JJ genuinely has and IMO it dwarfs any of these “individuals”. HOW could it possibly NOT?

We literally won a championship with an experienced retread coach and were set for another run had AD not gotten hurt.

Roster construction and injuries were the main things that sunk Vogel. Not his experience.

Even with all his mistakes, we got to the WCF with an experienced assistant and likely would’ve gone further had we not run into the one team that has our number.

Multiple posters complained about Ham not being qualified to be a head coach so now we would go out and get someone less qualified than him?

There is one team that keeps beating us and we can hire a guy in Adelman (who is probably my top guy now) who literally knows exactly how they operate. How is that not a plus over a complete unknown?

i can think of a couple of no experience guys in my lifetime who have worked in Bird and Kerr. Kerr got a team with two of the greatest shooters in NBA history. Neither guy walked into a team with the pressure of the Lakers. Coaching is hard and it’s even harder here due to scrutiny.

I can’t think of another off the top of my head. We’re watching Billups fail and Steve Nash flamed out pretty quickly.

If we were some rebuilding small market team, then, yeah. Whatever. Roll the dice. See what happens. We’re not. And we are still in a position to compete. It’s not the time to roll the dice on an complete unknown. Experience is a plus and shouldn’t be ignored or discounted.

sounds like the kind of skills that would’ve had us with a better playoff seeding and still in the playoffs.

Jerry would have done so many things different we wouldn't be in this crap situation and would likely have a couple more championships. Slick says the decision has been made, just not announced yet. Thoughts on that?

Everything that the article pointed out that @JSM pointed was spot on and confirmed by a local ESPN Radio Host Jorge Sedano who use to cover the Heat for years. He's definitely worth a look. Hope he gets an interview.

Isn't that the truth. However, I'm wondering if the shine comes off a little if the Wolves manage to blow this 0-2 lead. LOL.

Russell Westbrook was the main thing that sunk Vogel confirmed by John Ireland who works for the team. Anything else that came up such as what you listed definitely didn't help the situation, though.

When you say multiple posters complained about Ham not being qualified to be a head coach; is that before or after his hire? I wanted Ham and didn't really think much of his inexperience as a head coach. As a matter of fact, Rob bragged about his "sophisticated in-game management." I was sold. LOL. If we're talking about now with respect to experience, I'm open to whatever. It's rough. I like some of these guys, but IMO, the Lakers will settle on Reddick and I think they might bring in somebody like a Borrego to oversee the offense (Cranjis conceded he'd be a reasonable Offensive Coordinator - looks like he changed his mind on this again, lmao). That's just what I'm thinking unless there's a person that blows them away.

Excellent point on Kerr and the roster. He had a transcendent talent in Curry and an All-Star in Klay. Not to mention the continuity & success those guys had under Jackson (they were a playoff team IIRC) when Kerr came in; then Durant came & the rings followed; I'll also add they have/had a way better infrastructure than we've had in years. They had Bob Myers and Lacob. We have Jeanie, Rob, Kurt, Linda, Tim Harris, and whomever else pulling in different directions. This team doesn't have "one" vision. It's a mess.

I'm just going to sit back and see what transpires and how this roster gets gets build out this offseason. Hope for the best.

Some complained as soon as he was hired and wanted a more experienced guy. I get that as I think for me I was okay with Ham or Atkinson. I thought we needed a strong personality to handle the locker room with Russ and I think he actually did that but the wheels fell off in year 2 and here we are. Lol.

I’m keeping an open mind on the coaching hunt and will support whoever we hire and actually like JJ. but he’s a real tough sell for me as head coach. I’d be fine with guys like him and/or Rondo being an assistant.
