You try to hire the best coach you can find and if everything works out well, that coach will be able to help us rebuild in a positive way. But I just have few illusions, if we are able to get a great coach right now, I expect him to bail out once we get to rebuild mode. But you never know, perhaps we will figure out a way to land a great player replacement for Lebron and we will still be competitive. I'm just not counting on that. I am just not too worried, and am not really convinced that any of the available guys are a long term answer.

Byron Scott suggested making LeBron a player coach during his final years. He said LeBron didn't trust anyone else and he calls the shots anyway. Then someone said but then he wouldn't have anyone else to blame if it went wrong. Byron also made it clear he has no interest in the job...lol.

The Lakers head coaching search, as told by I Think You Should Leave...

Lakers fans: We want a head coach with experience.
*Checks the candidate pool and realizes it's full of retreads with no proven track record of success.

Lakers fans: We need to find an up and coming Assistant that will be here post-Lebron.
*The coach we just fired was a long-time Assistant known as a "player's coach."

Lakers fans: Let's just roll with Redick. Lebron seems to respect him, could bust but could also turn out like Kerr.
*Not enough experience. Didn't have AD on his All-Defense team.

Not a fan of Drummond since he’s sloth footed, but I would have taken him over Hayes.
Instead of spending all of our money on Gabe, I would have preferred it go to a solid big. I’m not really sure who was available at that amount, but it was a much larger need over another small guard.

Yeah, I get it. I wanted a big last summer who wasn’t just a big body, but one who can actually move his feet on defense. This is the largest hole right now in our team. We haven’t had a solid big, other than AD, since Bubble Dwight/JaVale and it’s killed our chances of being a good defensive squad.
Minny gave Denver fits in the first two games because they have good perimeter defenders and THREE bigs who can at least bother Joker by moving their feet and staying in front of him.
We had the winning formula, defensively, with the Bubble team and inexplicably went away from it.

How about a big that can do that as well as set screens, pass and keep the offense moving, run the floor. We just happened to have one that sat the bench and didn't get developed last year.

I agree about there should have been NBA game development with Colin, but with regard to “running the floor” …. sirron called it out, along with his “perceived” energy on the boards. And yeah I had to agree, he had one speed … a “not” very urgent trot each time up the floor or very urgent looking anything out there. When he got minutes they were never going to be many. Should have been going as hard as he could for those short stints, not playing at the pace of a starter in college. That’s on Colin.

Not sure if you’re joking or not Toklat. Some of us truly under these circumstances of his last 2 years or whatever here think it would be extremely interesting to see and a best logical thing to do. With his photographic memory and basketball brain. Why they and I see JJ who he’s spent hours and hours talking basketball, plays, strategy and whatever else pertaining to that …. would be pretty close actually with all the input he would have, without the heavy lifting, and be the next best thing.

Yeah, we don’t develop players very well here. I’m a fan of Castleton.

That sounds like vetting for a hire

Maybe.Sounds more like he’s the easiest candidate to be diligent with at the moment because he isn’t currently employed by a club.

Actually, I wasn't joking. If we want a coach to know and do what LeBron wants why not just have LeBron coach till he retires instead of hiring someone for two years and firing them. I guess that isn't a possibility though. I'm not totally unreasonable...lol.

Then why so dead set against JJ? That’s my whole point …. on top of which he “might” actually be a Pat Riley similar kind of surprisingly good coach with no prior experience. Crazy coincidentally also coming out of a short stint in the broadcast booth right after both finishing their playing careers, that’s going to stick in the league. Charlotte was interested already too. I will continue to say “IF” LeBron wants him that is a move Jerry Buss would do today like he did back in Magic’s 2nd year …. listening to him and to West.

because it's an amateur-hour move, and just because it worked once 40 years ago, doesn't mean it will now.
