Yeah..Lue would be great, Lebron gets the coach he wanted all along. Maybe he will resign? That would be an even sweeter FU to the Hyena.

i'd definitely approve. it wasn't that i wouldn't hire lue, it was that i felt he was largely interchangeable with the other two candidates. i feel like that's still pretty true. what's also true is all three of those guys are better than ham.

anyway, the clips won't fire lue largely because they know we'd hire him at this point.

I'm not sure Lue doesn't just resign tbh...I think I saw that he thought about doing so last year. I think the frustration of never having his whole team in the regular season/playoffs has gotten to him.

    Hmmmmm

    :Magic Brows:

How about he threatens to resign OR will do a sign and trade to the Lakers for Ham so they get some “thing” for him.

there are rules about this, right? i guess he could resign and give up the money, but my guess is he'd have to sit out the year (couldn't take another coaching job). so he'd be out cash with no way to recoup. if we wanted him, we'd have to give them picks like when the clips got doc rivers.

for us to hire lue, they have to fire him. they're not doing that.

IF Handy wants the job, then good chance I think he says eff it this time and quits the team .... if the Lakers pick a guy with zero coaching experience, not even as an assistant, over him. And with AD it ought to be a non starter with JJ MORONICALLY giving him ZERO respect in his defensive rankings.

Yeah I think you're right, hence why the Clippers had to trade for Doc rather than him just quitting and going there. Regardless, I think there's a decent chance Lue just quits. There was some talk about it last year, I remember Jake Fischer floating it. I think a big part of their push to actually have Kawhi and PG play more in the regular season was Lue being fed up with it. I mean just look at him now vs. 4 years ago, he looks like Obama did after his first term lol.

It also just occurred to me that we're going to see a "LeBron wants the FO to trade for Lue" leak from someone pretty soon.

I recall Ham being widely considered a great candidate both by the fanbase and media.

That has really disillusioned me about how accurately we can even evaluate the potential of an assistant coach from the outside looking in. Very wary of going that route again.

But also not super excited about any of the other available coaches with HC experience. And surveying the current coaches around the league, I think the only ones I see potentially getting fired are Lue and Vogel. I would love either of them two, but have a hard time seeing this FO eat crow.

On Handy, I see how you could argue that making him HC could backfire since then if we fire him we’d be losing a great developmental coach. But I think it also works the other way. If we pass on him for HC again, I can see him leaving somewhere else anyways. Not sure if his contract status prevents that. It does seem that the players have a lot of loyalty and respect towards Handy, so another consideration if we went another direction is that the FO/new coach might want to clean house anyways. Might not feel great for a new coach to walk into a situation where the players had often vouched for one of their assistants to be HC.

Overall though, we just have to do the best search possible and let the chips fall where they may. If Handy is legitimately the best man for the job, cool. But otherwise if we really like another candidate, I wouldn’t let anything about Handy’s situation get in the way

We need to hire Lue if he becomes available. We can't go with someone like JJ. I mean, he might be a fine coach one day and I wish him all the best. But getting these rookie coaches is just not the way to go for the Lakers. JJ could do well with a younger team, away from the Hollywood lights.

It's a good idea, I think, since LeBron likely is going to be here probably at least 2 more years, and he does (captain obvious take) still have elite value on the floor for the team, however he best HAS to choose how to pace himself to do damage in the post season (and unlike the silly takes that if Jeanie wants him back it's ONLY about money) (check the stats on what he put up this year for ANY age bracket) .... that it would be a key factor in not just ignoring him on his thoughts about a new coach. Handy seems to me like a perfect coach in that regard and reports have been out there he's voiced sentiment for him. Continuity with the players and most of offense and defense (hopefully improvements with both sides of the ball with meeting of minds between Phil and LeBron and AD). Rather than once again, since LeBron is LeBron and ultimately if he thinks his coach is a fool or not sharp enough mentally for the job, whoever it is ....will just do whatever he wants out there regardless of "hot new coach prospect" .... taking a flyer on anyone without getting his input. This is different than letting him dictate player moves IMO. It's practical and NOT a bad idea. The guy has a great basketball mind on top of, and in spite of, anything else that can be said about him on and off the floor.

Charles Barkley spoke out sharply in defense of the coaches of the teams that left the playoffs.

« We watch all the games and many talk shows. Many people on television are underpants. Players want to like them, they don’t want to do their job.

I want to say about the coach. Everyone who thinks that « Lakers » failed because Darwin ham and «Phoenix» because Frank Vogel, understand nothing. Vogel – excellent coach. Ham – is a wonderful specialist trying to start his career. All of you, skimmers, jesters and idiots from different media who are trying to spread to the players, do the thing.

«Lakers» and « Suns » – sucks, but not because of the coaches, but because of the players.

    I feel better », – spoke Barkley.

Pot meet kettle with random stupidity blurted out on the air …. if that’s what you’re saying about “fans” who follow the game. Out of curiosity was he in the Lakers were the fault Westbrick sucked here …. camp, anyone who recalls? Did HE actually call Ham “Darwin” BTW or typo elsewhere in the chain? Vogel he’s got a much better take on and I AM curious what the Suns decide going forward with that top heavy ISO happy, no D playing roster they put together.

Lot of smoke with Lue but I also feel like the Clippers would keep him just to prevent us from hiring him.

I don’t think Handy would be the worst option, and I agree that it makes sense to heavily weigh the input from our stars in the coaching decision.

But I’m not convinced Handy would be Lebron’s top choice.

And also I think his strengths (good developmental coach, has the current players respect, etc) is not necessarily what we should prioritize.

I want a HC with a track record of being a good X’s and O’s coach on at least one side of the ball. The going for a “player’s coach” with limited experience and hoping he surrounds himself with enough competent assistants to do the scheming for him, just is too risky IMO

If Lue or Vogel get fired, bring Lue in, or Vogel back, in that order.

If both stay in place, then just promote Handy to head coach.

I don't think getting JJ Redick would be good - another rookie coach is asking for a disaster.

Not sure what other coaches are out there...Mike Budenholzer woulda been good but I doubt he would take our job after his boy Ham gets canned...

    Anybody else?
