what? last year's draft wasn't considered strong, and mid-first rounders historically aren't very valuable in any draft.

people have gotten spoiled by our draft success so much that they can't process one failure at the level that most teams experience basically annually.

I will be surprised if we don't move the pick. I expect a trade over the summer.

That said, I do think our scouting department has proven itself and JHS doesn't change my mind on that. It's one of a handful of part of the front office that seems to function well.

not be a broken record, but i think we tried like hell to move the pick last year. these picks just don't have a ton of value. people want the uncertain future picks (even if the odds are they'll be the 17th pick, lol).

and i still trust the scouting department. hell, jhs was coming along nicely in the g-league after we (finally) sent him there and before the back injury. gotta have some patience with young players. notice all the guys excelling had more experience coming in.

but if you really want immediate impact from a draft pick, trade it, lol.

Yeah. I agree with you here. I think we would have traded it last year had something materialized but after we managed to get a lot done during the season without giving it up we weren't as pressed to make more deals over the summer.

I think we will be a bit more aggressive in trade talks this offseason if we lose this series in a sweep.

So this will be beneficial for our scouting department...

To scout these guys in house all they have to do is open an office window overlooking the court.

…I see a lot of talk about our picks out there right now which I think says a lot about how most feel about our chances in this series.

That said, the thing here for me is that we still won a championship before most of the other teams that folks would argue made better picks than us. That’s part of why I don’t get too attached to them as a whole even if they are high.

they missed the part where we traded those two #2s for anthony davis, whom the C Bags tried to trade for but he rejected them, in part because of the ethos/business practices that led to their "success".

also, i'm not sure brown is any better than ingram, tbh.

I don't know...if we drafted Tatum and Brown, we might not have ever traded for AD. Lebron, Tatum and Brown is a potent trio.

interesting. i watched him in the tourney and wasn't impressed despite him having a big game against a good team. but mike's opinion carries weight with me.

he seemed sorta jordan hill to me.

yeah, his one on nobody doesn't look too smooth. Not sure I would consider that a highlight clip, but 20/8 is nothing to sneeze at.

One thing right away I think Handy has over Ham is he would be a better judge of the talent of individual players and their potential ceilings and floors and by hopefully using better “Big Picture rotations (as defined by @Toklat) during the season he will put more emphasis on developing the players we have …. to be ready for the post season. I’m guessing there is some “young” Phil Handy out there that has caught his attention as game knows game, and I would hope he would bring that young blood and physical energy and budding talent in to be the new head trainer under his direction of what should be worked on with each player.
