Yeah DLO is fun as hell too when he catches fire from 3 and apparently even with his slow start this year shooting a higher %. Bigger and all around more in his repertoire? Better defender even? Great chemistry with team and if he plays well in the post season should be kept at like 1/2 Trae’s salary? Find a way to keep Spencer and maybe Vincent does come back and be the player we needed off the bench and better at PG POA than any of the other guards, not wings?

The Lakers should be looking to keep this roster and add a significant big in the offseason

Well… that would be the worst part; I’d have to imagine that Reaves would be part of the trade package.

To make salaries match I’m guessing Reaves and Rui would be gone for any of the potential “stars” we’re going for. Only way to avoid that would be if DLo cooperates with a sign and trade maybe? But I’m not sure how that would work, probably would be very complicated.

So yeah, overall I agree that we should focus on minor moves instead of sacrificing all our depth for a splashy star acquisition.

If the FO is willing to spend the draft capital to go “all in” for a final run with Lebron, it still makes more sense to go for a smaller move.

Like I’d have to imagine that Vincent, JHS, and 2 unprotected FRP could bring you back a very good player without eliminating any of our depth.

I want to see who steps up or chokes in the playoffs first. Depending on the outcome, any and everyone could be available IMO.

yeah, too many things still haven't happened. we could very easily end up in a 9/10 game with GS and lose that game to an en fuego curry. does that change the calculus? apparently, dlo's uptick influenced our trade negotiations (don't love that, btw--you either like a guy or you don't, imo).

i really think there's a lot of smoke around trae coming here this summer, so i'm trying to talk myself into it. it's better than russ--because at least there's a fit on offense--but...not my preference.

i still think we have enough talent on the roster, today, to win a ring. we just don't make the most of it for a variety of reasons (coaching, chemistry, leadership, etc.).

another conference finals run could lead us to stand pat and ACTUALLY capitalize on continuity (instead of changing philosophy and pecking orders for no good reason). but the scenario referenced above (losing in play-in) could prompt something drastic.

Pelinka's MO outside of AD (and frankly a lot of them came from AD) is not to discuss stuff. Lakers just don't seem to leak much

Maybe the Trae stuff is real but as Anthony Irwin has mentioned anything with Lakers is going to drive the social media metrics and let's face it ATL is stuck in a doom loop right now. Just those two facts are going to drive a lot of "news"

I think we have enough to get it done, I wish we'd have Jarred available, but we have what we have. The only guy that I'm Iffy on, is D'Angelo, but he's still here, and has the opportunity to redeem himself.

Young? Man IDK....it depends on what the rest of the roster looks like. Right now though...I'm all in with what we have.

Getting knocked off before the Conference Finals demands a change tho IMO.

That's true BUT the other side can be chatty and Klutch works the media to their advantage better than any other agency out there.

The three targets are coming from enough places, I think there's truth to it. But it's also been said that's not the only path they're considering. Going the depth route but improving the quality of that depth is another option with that draft capital. We've swung for the names every time the chance presents itself, but Rob has shown his plan B and C can be successful and I hope that's the case this summer. Even with all this smoke and the efforts of the Lakers and Klutch to get Trae here, I've yet to hear one good reason why the Hawks move their only box office draw since Nique. They're not winning with him, they're not going to win without him. Best teams can hope for who are in that zone is to have a household name player to sell tickets and merchandise and to get into the playoffs for playoff revenue.

A lot can change based on team performance across the league, but I don't think any of those three end up in LA. If I had to pick an outcome today, I think we strike out on the stars and use draft assets and scraps for AC and DD (S&T) and then focus on a better backup for AD.

    Good pick Gallo.

Although choosing a second stint with Doc is questionable.

If they go for the “three star” approach again, I won’t be watching many games. Unless you have the money like the Flippers or Warriors, it’s impossible to build a proper team this way.
The Lakers obviously make a boatload of money every year, but as we know, like to claim poverty.

Donovan Mitchell is the guy you want, IMO.

For people who haven't paid attention to the Cavs, Mitchell has carried that team for most of the season (Cavs been missing Garland and Mobley for multiple games), and they have been winning at a high clip.

If we don't win a chip this year, I think everyone is on the table & the 3 star model is what Rob will probably sell LeBron on; as one of the articles mention LBJ has been clamoring for star ball handler since 2021.

Yes, we would like have to give up depth and draft capital. Those are just how those things go, but you better have a plan if you're going this route; as we are well aware, you have to be precise around the margins.

Season isn't over yet. Let's see where we land and go from there.

mitchell is the guy you want, but there are two major hurdles, imo. one, it's not totally obvious to me that he will or should leave cleveland. he could easily sign a huge extension there and be winning and happy. the C Bags won't be able to keep their team together much longer (the holiday trade was the last thing like that they'll be able to do), so the east will be pretty wide open, cleveland could contend in the near future, imo.

the second thing is that ny has a huge erection for mitchell, are run by his agency, AND have more trade assets than we do.

i think we have zero shot at mitchell, tbh.

edit: and young concerns me because i don't think he'd be a huge upgrade on dlo (though he's a bigger upgrade on offense than people realize). he'd cost additional assets and create roster building issues without dramatically enhancing title odds. that said, he's 25, and he can carry an nba offense. in the post-lebron era, the chance of us landing such a player in FA is pretty slim. so i think a young trade would quiet lebron/klutch AND make ownership feel comfortable that they can keep fans in seats after lebron. it would be very on brand.

and THAT said, SA may save us, as a) they'll have more trade assets (mostly in picks, though) and b) i think young would be ok joining wemby and returning to his home state.

I might get a Spurs jersey this summer to root for them during the off-season to be the "winner" of the Trae sweepstakes. Another benefit here is the fact that one of the trade chips can be either giving the Hawks picks back that they're crying about over the Murray deal or they can negotiate some protections on those since they'll be entering a rebuild if they go through with a Trae Trade.

I don't think we are in a position to use picks to improve depth. With the Stepien Rule, you pretty much have to wait 2 years to get a pick back for each one you send in a trade.
So I think you only use it when you have your superstars settled for years. It's not our case

On the 3 star, I never liked it. That said, this could be the year it makes the most sense, considering LeBron can leave at any time (maybe he opts out and signs for less if we get the guy he wants?).
Trae in SA actually would make a lot of sense, for all parties included, namely Atlanta

the only reason i'm warmer on a trae trade vs russ, for example, is age. young is 25. it's possible that he still has a little room to grow, and it's likely he stays very productive for at least 4-5 more years. and as pika said, lebron will retire (or leave i guess) soon, and we will be a one-star team at that point, and that star (AD) won't be young anymore. if you can nab a mid-20s allstar level player to bridge the gap (during which we don't own a few of our picks and thus bottoming out probably isn't wise), i think it's defensible.

i'm not sure tinkering at the margins is worth using picks. i'm only using first round picks for allstars or greater, and i'd prefer young to old (kyrie is better than trae, but he's older and misses lots of time, all the time).

I don't think Mitchell is all that.
