love this move hibbert is an elite defensive center, exactly what this team needs. a change of scenery could really benefit him as well
It's better than DJ's postup game. But not Gasol or Randolph's. So yeah, "decent" is the right word for it.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this trade!! I like Hibbert much more than LMA for the simple fact that it doesn't stunt our young core's growth. Now let's go get some vet PGs/wings and we're ready to go!
This is a good bandaid move, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. We were exposed for being awful with FAs and we'll have the same problem next year. You can't keep trading for one year rentals and expect anything good to happen.
I'm pretty sure the fact that the 3 players we can call our core are unproven and only look good on paper is a hard sell man. If Russell Randle and clarkson kill it this season it is much easier to sit down and talk to FA's since you have something tangible to show/ impress them with
You may have missed the days they were not. Anyway, what the hell, over? A good day in Lakers land. Now if the Clippers can't swing Koufos (why would Memphis help them with sign and trade, when they're bitter playoff rivals?) ...... then SUCK it Clippers.
Let's be honest, this trade is only "good" in the sense that it saved us from our 3rd year of failed FA pursuits. And even though he's our best 1 year rental we've picked up in the last 3 years, he's still a 1 year rental. We're supposed to be picking up a guy we can build around for years to come. Hibbert may be that guy, but Indy is letting him go for a reason. We still have no way to ensure that he'll stick around after this year.
We may not keep Hibbert the seasons after but he makes it easier for our core to showcase themselves.
Not entirely, but I'd think they'd give us more consideration than Phoenix if we presented ourselves better.
I was kind of thinking the same thing, while I kept rolling around 7'2" defensive stud in my dome. "Stud" because he is in a great new environment in a CONTRACT YEAR. No longer do I fear all the other teams' true big men. We fix Hibbert and we fix our other 7' defensive stud and suddenly I don't know why people are just blowing off sneaking into the playoffs like it's an impossibility. We may have a lot of young guys but we got a lot of talent too, and this could be Kobe's finest hour if he can stay healthy.
I'm kind of hoping Hibbert has a solid, but not great year next year. That way we can extend him for cheap.
For one year. What would be easier for our core would be to know who they are going to be working with for the next 2 to 3 years. It's hard to build a team without continuity.
It doesn't really matter if it's a 1-year rental IMO. What is most important this upcoming season is to stay somewhat competitive while evaluating if D'Angelo, Julius, Clarkson and Black are the future our franchise. Because if they aren't studs we don't have jack s*** with or without quality FAs this year.
