Unrelated to that play but another Rui matchup observation... A fun mouse in the house situation I've noticed in both the GS game and the Bucks game due to talent/personnel/spacing, CP and Dame got matched on Rui more than they should've been. This is where that finesse closer to the rim would come in handy, especially with how the refs have been calling it. CP used his old man strength on him one play in the paint. For now, if he finds himself in similar matchups, I'd rather him just use that 6-7-8 inch advantage he has on them and rise up for the J. If he keeps finding small guards on him, that's going to be a fun matchup to exploit this year.
Some stupid hater yesterday wrote Well, the Lakers without their grandfather (means LeBron) boring and static, their only hope is in free throws. Hachimura is starting to get annoying with his long-range doubles that fly somewhere into the back board How he came with this I have no clue.Lakerw are anything, but boring
Yeah Rui is better off the bench. He lacks some basketball IQ and doesn't impact much the game apart from scoring. Curious to see his development this year
Rui doesn't have a great feel for the game. Once he touches it you can see he just wants to put it up. We gotta get him the ball on the run and quick attacks off of posting up. I'm not sure his playoff shooting will carry over but hopefully he can be 35% from 3.
Not a good showing. Held up OK on Joker even after slimming down, so that's a plus. He has to get more than 15 minutes even with how he played. I'd give him some of Wood's 15 minutes in this one. Rui has a bigger impact in other facets of the game in this particular matchup.
15 minutes is pathetic especially given LeBron only played 29 minutes. I'm really worried that we might have a problem of having TOO many guys...to the point where if everyone is healthy, there may not be enough minutes to go around. Rui should be playing 28-32 mpg for us - no exceptions.
Rui was pretty bad out there. He needs to step it way up if he wants more minutes. Disappointing tonight.
Problem with Rui is if his shots not falling doesn't really give you much. Not a playmaker, not a great rebounder, so so defender. Could see why Wizards fan grew frustrated with him. His future seems to be bench scorer and that's about it?
It's not his fault that Ham is putting him out there in the wrong lineups and then not running anything for him on offense. I think he plays the best with the starters...didn't get him enough looks with that squad imo.
He needs to be out there with our playmakers and have plays ran for him. He can make plays but hes better finishing plays (does that make sense?)
He was our worst player yesterday, made sense to go with other guys. He works hard and will be fine, but his ceiling is lower than anticipated. You can't really teach to read the game and have bball IQ but you can teach defense and if he develops that, he can have a good career. He must make sure his game is not only scoring, those guys don't have great careers in contenders I trust him to become better, let's see how he bounces back
#freeRui Got to find a way to get him involved. I know his looks are different in a 5-out vs the 4-out, but talent > role and utilization.
Free Rui? I thought he was terrible on the glass tonight. Some of it is definitely not his fault: why Ham goes centerless with him and Lebron at the same time when you have WOod and Hayes makes no sense. Still he's can't get beat on both the offense and defensive boards like he was doing.
I’m not too concerned about these poor first 2 games, just hope he doesn’t get discouraged by the lack of playing time. Definitely some growing pains adjusting to new rotations/personnel, both on Rui’s part and the coaching staff’s. I’m confident it will iron itself out and there will be matchups that allow Rui to be very productive and get a lot of playing time
