There’s no reason you can’t team a 3&D PG with a playmaking SG or wing. George Hill played that role well.

Yeah in 2020 we played Caruso or Bradley/KCP. Hodge fits well with Reaves and LeBron, but when the latter retires, not sure.

imo, hill and caruso are stronger ballhandlers than hodge, and both played point in college. i think bradley did, too, actually. kcp didn't, but is hodge good enough at the other things kcp does to offset it like he did?

maybe. in the little i saw, he was actually the one guy from the summer league team that i thought could get on the court this year. we just have several guys ahead of him at sg. i suppose if he can play pg, he might find his way into some time if someone gets injured.

Hodge can fit a role that the Lakers need. Play defense and space the floor. His role isn't to complex where he may transition smoothly with the others

Post from MJST on LG a couple days ago:

"This is basically what ya'll wanted from Hield but at 15M less."

"If you want a difference between he and KCP...

KCP always struggled with finishing or efficient scoring when it was anywhere inside the three point line.

Hodge on the other hand from 2s in college averaged 52,5% on two pointers his first season, and that went up to 62.9% from 2s in his second season, and that went to 63.4% his third season.

He is a 40% on high volume three point shooting role player whom can finish inside the arc with solid efficiency.

He's more or less perfect for the role people wanted Hield for due to his high volume threes and ability to get hot, but also gives a defensive effort, like what they liked from KCP.

He's also 24 so you likely are just going to get somewhere around or slightly better versions than he is right now at his peak, but THAT is still extremely valuable if he can translate it at the NBA level. Not starter level, but definitely bench microwave.
    "

I really like what I saw of Hodge this summer. I would love to keep him around.

Can he be a better defender, though shorter, maybe, than Beasley (who was probably better than DLO) …. if hopefully he’s one of those rare birds that can retain his shooting skills from deep as a Laker? He IS after all 3 or so inches taller than Schroder who was “best” off the bench and not really a great point guard or passer.

it's funny how film and measurements don't always align in my mind. like, dennis plays bigger than his listed size, imo. and hodge (and jhs) look smaller than their listed size. but there is such a thing as "playing bigger" (see: bruce brown).

anyway, maybe we get to see how hodge looks on the floor (injuries happen) against nba-sized guys. his game is wes matthews-ish, but he's not quite as big as matthews. that said, people thought matthews wasn't big enough to play his game in the pros and were wrong.
