Does Wood think he is better than Rui? He's not. Maybe he thinks he is better than AD!!

Right? It's such a thing now, and I'm not a native speaker and make mistakes, but these guys go beyond. Especially the "we was...", Every NBA player talks like that. I get you're from the hood but never understood why they all talk like that when adults
    Yeah I agree with that.
I get Wood's camp wants to understand what they're getting to before signing a vet min and I guess it's a type of talk in all contract signings, even more in a situation where a player has lost his market and wasn't supposed to be in this range.
On the same token, we should definitely not make any assurances of playing time, after Drummond's fiasco
I didn't even thought about that one but of course he does. Rui has done nothing in the league, he was traded for 2nd round picks (yet, he has already more playoff appearances than Wood will probably get in his life lol).
Knowing the type of mindset of guys like Wood, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't like being a sub for Rui

Again, this Wood thing only works if he's heavily humbled, which is a HUGE if. Hopefully Chicago bites and we can move on

Btw, didn't know JaMychal Green was in the market. He haven't established in any of the contender teams he has been playing, and I wonder why. But he looked nice to me, good D, some shooting and an established vet. I like him and put him in the TT, Biyombo tier

Word that Jokic retaliation finished Morris' tough guy credentials. Turned Markieff into Marqueef.

i'm predictably on the side of once "so you gonna start me if i come?" is uttered, i'm out. disagree that it's standard negotiating, particularly for a minimum-level player. if this was a big time FA, and we were a team with cap space looking to make big changes or in a state of roster turnover, fine. but we're coming off a conference finals appearance and returning the bulk of the team, including all but one of the regular season and playoff starters (only schroder is gone, and he only started like two games, iirc). if that ask was made, it came from a place of insanity.

guessing lebron and/or AD. the guy isn't well thought-of outside of box score watching.

and if this is true, my guess is there's no way he's coming here, and we're just being used for leverage elsewhere.

It has to be one of the two, no one else has a loud enough voice to chime in on FA signings. Maybe it's AD because he played with him and has an opinion based off that.

There's just way too many red flags for an end of the bench big.
    .... it's not.

A significant player not being on board, role/ minutes concerns, no defense, maturity concerns in the past, empty numbers.

Too many warts to overlook for what should be a drama-less lunch pail addition. It's not worth the time in Ham's day as a coach.

If Wenyen is still available I pick him up and roll with him for the moment. In the regular season effort and motor goes a long way.

Pick up another real center at the trade deadline or if a good one gets cut from a roster later if Wenyen’s contract is non guaranteed.

My guess is the FO would only offer a non guaranteed contract, just incase they need to cut them and no one we’re targeting wants that at the moment.

Do the Lakers have a standing offer for Woods or don’t they? Because if they do all this “red flag” talk is meaningless. The report of a player not wanting him would also be meaningless.Unless you believe the front office hasn’t done their due diligence

If Wood is that much of a problem, we just need to move on. Risk vs reward doesn’t seem worth it.

And there is the rub. Why would a team who is expected to challenge for championship offer a contract to a player they knew was a problem and they knew one of their stars didn’t want? If they really have a standing vet min offer to Woods then all these “reports “ of a problem child are laughable

"If" is doing a lot of lifting throughout the wood conversation. if we don't know that a star doesn't want him on the team, we also don't know that a formal offer has been made. could have been rob saying "circle back here if you don't find something over the minimum, maybe something can happen." could all be wood's agent trying to use la (and miami) as a threat--pay us more or he'll go to a glamor market for pennies.

one thing isn't an unknown is that wood is not particularly popular among former teammates, coaches, or gms.

A lot of Mavs fans (and that Mavs' guy who was on Irwin's podcast) are saying he wasn't a bad teammate/locker room guy in Dallas but it does seem like he's not popular. Maybe its all stemming from when he was in Houston and Detroit. Maybe some of that is his agent apparently being an a******, I could totally see Klutch (and by extension LeBron) not liking him. Who knows. Seems like there's a good chance Wood ultimately signs here if he's choosing between minimums, but will take anything even slightly over that instead.

I’ve always liked Green and would have loved to have him a few years ago… but he’s getting older and did NOT look great in the playoff series against us. I wouldn’t have minded him on a minimum contract if we didn’t already sign Prince/Reddish. Not saying he’s too similar to those players… but he’s more similar to a 3/4 then a 4/5 IMO.

We need a true big, and Green is not that. I think we’d be better off just using LeBron/Rui in small ball 5 scenarios than using a roster spot on Green

Trevor is no insider. And I'm sure signings are always discussed with your top stars, specially LeBron who has been in the league for so long and has so many connections (like hitting Kyrie and Luka on how Wood behave off the court, etc). So for me it's cap
I don't think he is a minimum level player, if we're using it has a totem for the quality of a player. But he made bad moves and didn't made the most of the opportunities he had. There were 7 teams with cap space and since extensions became a thing, FA is always dry and available cap space and MLEs go to a few number of players.
I mean even Sac, Spurs and Orlando (?) had cap space and didn't use in FAs. So more and more you have guys like Wood, Monk, Schroder and so on signing for the min. Not because they are end of bench players (like a vet min was and is supposed to be) but because the market is more limited than 10-20 years ago

I think it's fair to run due diligence (DD) from the player side and understand what role is the team looking for him. It's supposed to be a redemption year and it's harder if you don't see the field and is only an occasional player like Gabriel was. So you're certainly aiming for a team that gives you at least a role where you play all games.
Now, if then you have talked to 10 teams and have starting gigs in rebuilding teams like Charlotte, bench player from the Clippers and AD insurance from us, he can make an informed decision.

    Yeah I agree with you
I guess he should look good defending Jokic and probably did it plenty in practices. Can definitely help. That and snitch in their system and weaknesses.
But there's question marks for sure

so your take is that he's just lying. ok.

i mean, several teams had full mle, too. and lots of teams could take him in a s&t. as you said, teams that need talent opted simply to absorb salaries or do nothing rather than sign wood with it. i just find it hard to believe that these are all idiots who can't see value.

Lane isn't a rumor monger, which is why I tend to believe him here. When guys who typically don't traffic in "sources" and drama mention something they've heard, its usually true. Same with Zach Lowe; I pay more attention when he says he's hearing something than when Windhorst or Simmons say it, because Lowe says it less.

I've been on the fence with this Wood thing but if some of our guys are saying don't sign him, yeah f*** that. That's maybe the biggest red flag there could be.

They were all pretty dumb with Monk who had obvious talent and upside so it does happen

I don’t know, that had been my impression of Lane and the LN guys as well… but then a month ago they posted as “Breaking News” citing sources saying they drafted JHS as a backup plan in case they had to let Reaves walk for an offer that was too expensive.

Obviously we never ended up putting that to the test because Reaves never got a max offer, but all the more established reporters had said we’d match in any scenario, which I fully believe was the case.

Just rubbed me the wrong way, felt like clickbaity fear mongering.

With that said, that’s NOT the vibe I get with what Lane is saying about Wood. He’s not being very loud about it, not making “Breaking News” type posts. He’s only mentioned it briefly during podcasts and has been very low key about it. I fully believe that Lane heard this rumor in Vegas.

Whether there is truth to the rumor or not, that’s a different story.

I do find it hard to believe that the FO would still be strongly pursuing Wood if LeBron and/or AD made it clear they did NOT want Wood.

After the Westbrook fiasco, I’ve been all for the FO operating more independently from LeBron/AD… but NOT when it comes to the 14th roster spot lol.

Like if Lebron/AD are strongly pushing to go get someone specific, I think the FO should push back if it doesn’t make sense. But if it’s the other direction and Lebron/AD are strongly pushing that they DON’T want a particular player the FO is targeting, I think you have to listen to them.

At the end of the day though, again I trust the FO at this point. If they do end up signing Wood, then I’d be good with it. That would signal to me that these rumors were untrue and/or the concerns were overblown, and that all the due diligence they did have them comfortable with the move.
