Guys that Harris news is really, really not good for LAL. From what happened with Ed we know LAL aren't moving forward with anyone until they get the official "no" from Aldridge and Jordan, so it's unlikely that it's them. Tobias is also one of the last impact players on the board, unfortunately.

It was implied that Aldridge wanted to know how specifically he'd be used, who he'd be playing with, and that kind of stuff. Houston uses analytics to determine who should shoot the ball and where and when. The Lakers apparently don't do that. I think Aldridge just wanted more of a basketball presentation and we gave him something completely different. I'm not sure you can save it at this point, but a second meeting doesn't hurt. At one point we were considered strong contenders. There's got to be a reason, right?

Agreed. This is bad news for the Lakers in terms of finding an impact player this summer. It really looks more and more like they're content to keep punting in FA if they don't get a GREAT player. No good players allowed here in FA.

Koufos is decent defensively. I'd say above average.

On occasion. He's not necessarily the most mobile guy, but he gives 100% effort on the floor.

    Thanks Real.

So then we should have a analytic team to tell Aldridge, we will mold the team around you. You will be our #1 piece, we will get a physical/defensive center, our offense runs through you in the post and pick and pop at the elbow. He will be credited for the Lakers quick rebuild, win us a championship and be a god in LA.

I want Harris, but I just realized that if we were agree to terms with him, our money would be stuck for 10 days while we wait for Orlando to make their decision! Yeah, I know teams have 3 days to decide whether or not to match an RFA ... but that's three days from when they officially sign the offer sheet, not verbally agree to an offer sheet.

Pretty much. Tell him ow we can find him a Center to play with (probably Lopez or Koufos) and how the other pieces we have (including Kobe) would build through him as the #1 option.

Probably not as good as what Spurs and Phoenix has to offer, but Lakers still a better destination than those teams and we have a ton of room opening up very soon. Our presentation has to basically be: we can get into the playoffs and surprise some people by doing ____. Mitch can trade some young guys for ______. Next summer we can get _____ and begin building a dynasty around you.

That is the one big flaw in thinking... That "star" driven philosophy. We have one even if he is not what he used to be. Put some solid complimentary pieces with him and the kiddie corps. Things won't be dire. They make a loud noise, 2016 "star" free agents hear it and we gain their attention.

You just fax an offer sheet over, he signs it. Three days since then. It's possible the Lakers are the team he's talking to, but I doubt it.

But I thought this is the moratorium where players can talk to teams, but can't officially sign anything yet.

Yeah they have to sell Aldridge as the guy who brings people over. Come here, have a little faith, we'll put a team around you that is competitive. We'll make the playoffs and who knows what happens in the playoffs? Then the next summer YOU are the guy along with our young players that makes other FAs want to be here.

The Lakers really should admit to him upfront that we know we're not a destination without a star player other than an aging Kobe... We KNOW that. But if Aldridge signs, HE is the draw. It's HIS team and he is the hero that saves the Lakers and brings us back to prominence. Forget commercials. Forget money. Forget the women and the weather. Well maybe not that... But we need one guy to make the leap of faith her and get other players looking our way. Mitch has a track record of building winners and he just needs the one domino to fall. Be that domino Lamarcus!

If you want to win NOW, the Lakers don't have a very compelling pitch.

    • Kobe on last legs, not around long, can be a d*ck, doesn't realize it isn't 2006
    • Youngsters with little to no experience relied on to play major roles
    • Flotsam and jetsam
    • Coach that did well with high level floor generals to hide his flaws, highly questionable otherwise
    • You'll likely be crucified in the court of public opinion if you aren't in the finals and have a career year
    • Money that is just as green in other places, but with less traffic and taxes
    • Oh yeah, maybe some Kia commercials or insurance pitches....
I'd stay on the youth movement over pick the wrong guys. .500 is a great improvement next year, but we WILL BE FUN TO WATCH!!!

Is it possible Lakers could get Ed to agree to only go to Portland in a sign and trade, with Nick for Lopez, and if they say no, and we lose Aldridge for sure, then offer Ed 7 million per year to stay? Plus then potentially sign Lopez as a free agent additionally?

I doubt you get Ed to change his mind, though that happens sometimes.

But I don't see why we couldn't sign and trade him if Portland is up for it.
