I'm not OK with it as a Laker fan. But if the Lakers are OK with a complete rebuild we have to trust they know what they are doing. As I said before. they better have effing nailed the Russell pick.
Yeah but Russell busting, Kobe on his last legs, no marquee FAs, FO in shambles?... I think that wins.
I'd agree....we CANNOT afford a Russell bust. If that happens AND Okafor becomes an all-star we are screwed.
Yeah....I love how we get 48 hours of what it feels like to be another franchise and we all crap the bed oh boy, to be a laker fan
I don't see how we can blaim the front office in this situation. We have DJ and LMA considering us. We HAVE TO WAIT, because 2 or 3 quality role players do not equal 1 allstar. How else are we supposed to proceed?
I'm not even worried about Okafor. Honestly I'm not concerned about Russell either. I think the truth is Mitch is great at a lot of things bit he's just not a good salesman and he's not good at luring big name FAs. I think he could find a trade that works. I think he could draft a star. I don't think he can get Aldridge to sign.
The same guy whose sauces told him that David West was a flat out lock to join the Knicks. West later stated that he wants no part of the Knicks and wants to be on a contender (GSW, Spurs).
Russell will be a bust if he is not given a capable complementary cast. That onus is on Kupchak and co. From the small sample, he is a capable player but is he THE star that he is projected to be? Who knows...but at least help the young man succeed by solidifying the personnel around him. He is not the explosive scoring machine like 24 that can carry a rag tag collection.
Yeah, exactly. Trades are mitch's arena.....I don't know that we have too many assets to give up. Outside of our youngins that is. I don't doubt we will pull off a trade this summer for a piece, and we have that to look forward to. Regarding Mitch as a salesman...sure that's not his forte, but we have a ton of guys in the room making that pitch. Mitch is the GM - he talks roster, logistics and a little b-ball. The rest of the pitch is on our other guys is it not? The business side of the pitch - that's not on mitch. I feel like if the FO is to blame in this it goes beyond Mitch. Jeanie and Jim need to be looked at. they're the one calling the shots, deciding who attends the meetings, what the plan is, presentation, etc.
